‘Suicide Squad’ Trailers Hit TV: Batman Spotted In New TV Spot, Why The Gang Are Labelled The ‘Worst Heroes Ever’

What happens when you get Harley Quinn and a bunch of other borderline-psychotic villains together for a deadly mission? Enter Suicide Squad. The movie, which features big names like Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Will Smith (Deadshot), and Jared Leto (The Joker), just had several new trailers launch on TV today. If you’re ready to get a first look (or perhaps second if you’ve been to a movie theater recently), read on.

Ben Affleck also makes an appearance as Batman in one of the Suicide Squad trailers. The Caped Crusader can just barely be seen emerging from the darkness as he flies over the city. Is he there to stop the Squad from carrying out their impossible mission, or is he just gonna let them blow themselves up?

The official Instagram page for Suicide Squad mentions that David Ayer directed the film. Ayer has in the past been known for action movies such as Fury and End of Watch, so the insane violence of Suicide Squad isn’t that big of a stretch for the director. The film also stars emerging actors Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Complex.com mentions that the film explodes into theaters on August 5 of this year. If you don’t want to wait, though, there are four TV spots that should be enough to chew on for now.

The trailer gets our attention right away as we see a government suit ask the philosophical question, “What if Superman decided to fly down, rip off the roof of the White House, grab the President right out of the oval office? Who would’ve stopped him?”

Jared Leto, the spiritual successor to Heath Ledger’s Joker, is taking his wacky role very seriously. As TheWeek.co.uk discovered, Leto actually met with psychopaths of the non-fictional sort to develop the role of the Joker.

“I did meet with people that were experts, doctors, psychiatrists that dealt with psychopaths and people who had committed horrendous crimes, and then I spent some time with those people themselves”

Talk about method acting! Suicide Squad’s one-liner description is hardly enough to answer all our questions yet just enough to raise more.

The official film synopsis states, “Supervillains accept a secret government mission that will likely result in their deaths.”

Hmm, mysterious much?

One thing that is clear about the movie is the main characters (protagonists/antagonists?) really like guns. And explosives. Probably a tad too much. Will Smith’s assassin Deadshot comes to us from the Green Arrow universe, and the Green Arrow Wiki mentions he’s something of a bad guy-turned-good. Will we see more of his good or evil side in the Suicide Squad premiere, or perhaps a mixture of both? For now, we’re thinking mostly evil. It’s not an exact science.

Harley Quinn has long been a nemesis of Batman, probably because she likes to break things quite a bit and is just a little insane. Harley first met the Joker at Arkham Asylum, where he was a patient and she a psychiatrist. The deranged doll/woman hybrid uses a huge mallet as her weapon of choice and is the perfect opposite to The Joker himself.

Then we’ve got the Cap — Captain Boomerang, that is. This ol’ throwback (see what we did there?) is skilled at using boomerangs for weapons is actually even more of a lunatic than his fellow Suicide Squad members, as he’s a racist and just generally abrasive. The Captain might have to work on a few things before he can conceivably fit into this group of misfits.
