Demi Lovato Dismisses Bisexual Rumors, Following Wilmer Valderrama Split

Demi Lovato finds strength in her own self-confidence, and that’s especially true in respect to her sexuality, which Ms. Lovato says doesn’t need to be labeled. Demi again faces the rumors that she may be bisexual following her unexpected split from Wilmer Valderrama. While she’s keeping busy in the studio to keep her thoughts distracted from the failure of her relationship with Wilmer, Demi is speaking more publicly on her thoughts on sexuality and the need for labels in a society coming to terms with newly identified gender identities and sexual orientations.

“Heart Attack” Singer Demi Lovato Owns Her Sexuality

Demi Lovato isn’t one to bother with public speculation about her sexuality. In fact, the pop star says she’s not at all interested in labeling or defining herself just to make the public feel better. Lovato says sexuality isn’t about defining a single person, but about exploring a connection between people. Demi has felt compelled to describe her feelings on sexuality more than once in recent years. Previously, her hit “Cool for the Summer” sparked rumors that Ms. Lovato was bisexual with lyrics that read “Got a taste for the cherry / I just need to take a bite” and “Don’t be scared ’cause I’m your body type”.

Whether she defines herself as straight, bisexual, or nothing at all, one thing Lovato has never shied away from was her support for the LGBT community. In conjunction with Nick Jonas, Demi canceled tour dates in North Carolina due to restrictive bathroom legislation generally viewed as discriminatory toward transgender persons.

“It’s something I’m passionate about because I get it; I grew up in Texas. Being different in Texas or in the South in general, you can be judged,” says Ms. Lovato.

Again, Demi slightly referred to her belief that sexuality shouldn’t have to be defined, as she looks at the way the LGBT community is viewed. For the “Heart Attack” singer, it’s just normal to accept people at face value and not question them about matters that should be considered private.

“I grew up in a home where there was absolutely nothing wrong with somebody identifying as another sex or liking the same sex. People will say, ‘Thank you so much for all that you do.’ And my response is: It’s just something that people should already be doing.”

Split From Wilmer Valderrama Causes Demi Lovato To Throw Herself Into Her Work

Demi was working into the late night hours only a few days after the announcement of her break-up with Valderrama, as Snapchat users learned, when Demi shared a picture that was captioned “11:51 p.m. Studio.”

News of the break-up came Friday, as Wilmer and Demi released a joint statement to inform fans of the split.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends,” the release read. “We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years.”

Sources close to Lovato and Valderrama reveal that there really wasn’t any big drama, as might be expected. Instead, the couple simply came to the realization that, while they still love each other, the nature of that love has changed. Sources say Lovato and Wilmer see each other in the context of a sibling love, as opposed to the passionate love the couple once shared. Those close to both Demi and Wilmer are confident that their friendship will endure for many years to come.

“They love each other but aren’t in love anymore,” a source shared. “They are really great friends, which they’ll continue to be, but the romance sort of died.”
