Robin Roberts’ Mother Dies: Lucimarian Roberts Passes Away At 88 [Video]

Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts lost her mother yesterday, ABC News is reporting.

Just hours after Roberts said goodbye to her co-workers and a GMA audience to start medical leave for a bone marrow transplant, Robin’s mom, Lucimarian Roberts, passed away in Mississippi. She was 88.

There was no immediate word of the cause of Lucimarian’s death. But Roberts has had a huge amount of hardship placed on her at the moment.

Just as she begins the long and painful process of fighting myelodysplastic sydrome (MDS), a rare form of leukemia which she was diagnosed with earlier this year, Roberts will be dealing with the grief and sadness brought on by the loss of her mother.

WWLTV has more on the life of Lucimarian Roberts:

“Born in Ohio, she and her husband, the late Col. Lawrence Roberts, moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1969. In addition to her work with civic groups and charities, Mrs. Roberts was the first woman to chair the Mississippi Board of Education and served as director of the New Orleans branch of the Federal Reserve Bank.”

“Other honors included the Medgar W. Evers Lifetime Achievement Award from the Gulfport Branch of the NAACP.”

In her later years, Lucimarian penned the inspirational book My Story, My Song, which featured fond reflections and recollections from Robin.

After news of Robin Roberts mom’s death, NBC anchor Hota Kotb took to Twitter to write:

“@RobinRoberts … Sigh… I am so sorry to hear abt your mom. I am praying for you xoxo”

Good Morning America executive producer Tom Cibrowski also offered his condolences via the social networking site:

“Our thoughts, prayers and love with our @RobinRoberts this Friday– GMA celebrating her beloved mom Lucimarian who passed away overnight.”
