SPOILER ALERT: This post references events that occurred in the first half of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead. It also contains speculation about what could possibly occur in the second half of Season 2.

Last week’s episode of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead, entitled “Shiva,” was the final episode in the first half of Season 2. While fans of the popular spin-off of The Walking Dead have likely already grown accustomed to mid-season breaks, this one is going to feel like it is longer than usual — and that is because it is.

In typical The Walking Dead fashion, the season is split into two parts. Since the first season of Fear The Walking Dead only contained six episodes, there was no need for a long break. For whatever reason, there was a week break between the second and third episodes, but the show continued as normal afterwards.

The Walking Dead generally takes breaks that last two and a half months at the most. While that is still a long time for fans of the show to wait, it makes sense. Since The Walking Dead airs in the fall, the break comes over the holiday season, which is a slow time for all TV shows.

Fear The Walking Dead is taking it a step further, and their break will last nearly three months. The next episode will air on August 21, 2016. While this is a long time to wait for anxious fans of the popular spin-off of The Walking Dead, it is also standard that television shows take breaks over the summer. The good news is that after Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead ends in the fall, The Walking Dead will probably begin its 7th season shortly after.

As seen in the trailer above, Nick (Frank Dillane) has broken apart from the rest of the group and is now on his own. While Nick has proven that he has the skills that are necessary in order to survive in the zombie apocalypse, it is going to be a lot more difficult now that he does not have the full support of the group. The trailer appears to show him coming across some pretty bad people, so it is going to be interesting to see how he eventually makes it through.

While the trailer does not reference any of the other characters, we know from the latest episode, entitled “Shiva,” that many of the other characters have also gone their separate ways. Since Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) had become a danger to the group, Travis (Cliff Curtis) decided that he needed to leave with his son in order to help him deal with his issues. This comes after Chris threatened Madison (Kim Dickens) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). After a struggle with Travis, Chris also attempted to kill his father.

In speaking to IBTimes UK, Cliff Curtis describes the implication of Travis and Chris leaving the group and how it will affect his relationship with Madison and the rest of the characters.

“It’s a tough challenge [for Travis] on how he is going to take care of his son. And this is going to create a lot of conflict between him and Madison and the other kids because now he is much more focused on his son. His son is his primary concern now, and that’s going to be a problem for their relationship and his relationship with the kids.”

While not a lot is known yet what is going to happen in the second half of Season 2, it is going to be interesting to see how the group eventually reunites. Will Chris adapt to the new world, or will he go the route that Shane (Jon Bernthal) did in Season 2 of The Walking Dead? Will Madison and Strand (Colman Domingo) be able to coexist? Is Daniel (Rubén Blades) really dead?

Find out when Fear The Walking Dead returns on Sunday, August 21, 2016.
