Apple’s Upcoming MacBook Pro May Be A Microsoft Surface Pro 4 And Surface Book Killer

Apple fans are very excited right now. Despite the release of what many think have been underwhelming products, Apple appears to be coming back with a solid bang. Gizmodo has the news.

“Dependable rumors suggest that the MacBook Pro is about to get major revamp. According to a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities, Apple will release a dramatic redesign of the MacBook Pro in the fourth quarter. ‘Dramatic’ might be too small a word, actually.”

The article adds that the new MacBook Pro will not only be thinner and lighter, but will have an OLED touch bar right above the keyboard, where the function buttons currently sit. The secondary screen will be touch sensitive and can be used for things such as shortcuts. The new MacBook Pro will also support Touch ID, USB-C, and Thunderbolt 3.

Some of the commenters after the article aren’t completely thrilled.

“How about just an OLED Touchscreen period? I think that would be better,” states Kingsford.

“Great. So now they will be 4 times the price of a comparable windows laptop instead of just 2,” says Burger-Lord.

However, the excitement for the new MacBook Pro is at an all-time high on Twitter.

Apple can certainly use a hit right now. The current MacBook Pro has been overshadowed by Windows 10 laptops such as the Microsoft Surface Book, the Surface Pro 4, and even Dell’s XPS 13. The Surface Book wasn’t a huge threat at first, but now that most of the bugs have been fixed, many have called it a MacBook Pro killer. Laptop Magazine is one of those sources.

“Really, it’s all about the speed. In fact, Microsoft claims that the Core i5 or Core i7-powered Surface Book is twice as fast as the MacBook Pro. The notebook also has a PCIe SSD, which is at least twice as fast as traditional, SATA-based drives. and comes in capacities ranging from 128GB to 1TB.”

The Dell XPS 15 and, especially, the updated Dell XPS 13 have also taken away thunder from the MacBook Pro. Digital Trends rates the Dell XPS 13 as the market’s best laptop and says Dell has really raised the bar.

“Dell’s XPS 13, introduced earlier this year, is arguably the best notebook of 2015. The original won our Editor’s Choice award, impressing us with its excellent battery life, beautiful display and slim dimensions. Now, with the release of Intel’s new 6th-generation Core processors, it has received an internal refresh that ensures it isn’t left behind by the competition.”

One of the reasons that Windows laptops are overtaking MacBooks is because they have touchscreens. Some Windows 10 notebooks, such as the Surface Book or Surface Pro 4, serve as digital inking pads. Apple’s answer to the digital inking pad is the iPad Pro (which comes in 12.9 and 9.7-inch versions), but those only run the mobile iOS instead of a full desktop operating system. Steve Jobs was very much against putting touchscreens on the MacBook Pro or even the MacBook Air, but many people feel Tim Cook needs to get with the times and give consumers what they want.
