Memorial Day 2016 Sales: How To Find All The Best Deals On Electronics, Clothes, And Summer Items

Memorial Day 2016 is almost here, and those looking to start the summer with some great sales will be able to find deals on everything from electronics to spring clothing headed off the shelves ahead.

The unofficial start to summer has also morphed into the biggest shopping weekend following the post-Christmas bevy of sales, and both operate under the same concept. In the week after Christmas, retailers are looking to unload the leftover merchandise that survived holiday shoppers, leading to some deep discounts on big-ticket items like flat-screen televisions.

On Memorial Day, the sales focus largely on the on-the-way-out spring merchandise, with some of the best sales on spring fashions.

There is another common factor between Memorial Day sales and holiday shopping — a gradual creep up the calendar. Black Friday deals have now started to invade Thanksgiving and even earlier, and likewise the Memorial Day 2016 sales now start close to two weeks before the holiday itself.

But Deal News noted that most of the action start on Thursday before the holiday and peaks on Memorial Day itself, with about 25 percent of sales taking place on Monday. The report noted that about 30 percent of all sales will be for spring clothing and sales of up to 50 percent from home goods stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot.

The report also told shoppers to keep an eye out for mattress sales, including US-Mattress which is offering 40 percent off on some items.

There are some tips for those looking to hit up the Memorial Day 2016 sales. Deal News warned shoppers to stay away from the seasonal items they’ll need in summer, like grills or bathing suits. Unless these are a dire need, it’s much more cost-efficient to wait until the days start getting shorter again and fall begins to creep in, the report noted.

“Unlike some other holidays, Memorial Day sales don’t disappoint — as long as you shop for the right stuff. You’ll want to steer clear of summer items, as you’ll find better deals on things like grills and summer clothing later in the season. (Hold off until August for those goodies.) Instead, stick to the guide below to find plenty of substantive savings.”

There are some other lighter areas for Memorial Day sales. There won’t be as many deals on electronics (partially because retailers are prepared for people to be spending more time outside in the summer and less time in front of the television). But some outlets, including WalMart, do have some deals on select electronics.

WalMart featured a number of other seasonal items in the sales, including picnic supplies and American flags.

Here are some of the best Memorial Day 2016 sales so far:

  • Cabela’s: Up to 60 percent off select items and free shipping with the coupon code “56MEM”
  • Best Buy: up to 35 percent off a selection of appliances and vacuums and free delivery on items that cost $399 or more. The discounts will include refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, and microwaves.
  • Target: Up to 30 to 65 percent off clearance patio furniture. Time noted a couple of the best deals — the Belmont Wicker Patio Dining Table for $155.98 with $30 s&h ($104 off), and the Threshold Casetta Wicker Patio Chaise Lounge for $209.40 with $40 s&h ($140 off).
  • Walmart: Up to 73 percent off a selection of clearance toys on brands including Disney, Fisher-Price, LEGO, and My Little Pony.
