Fear The Walking Dead consists of a core group of individuals that are striving to survive the zombie apocalypse. Along the way, they have already come across some interesting characters, some we may see again, others destined to be nothing more than a plot device. So, which characters can we expect to see return in the second half of Season 2?
SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses Season 2 and 3 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.
Remember when Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) met that cute guy over the CB radio back in Episode 1 of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead? Remember just how quickly that relationship soured? Well, according to Fear’s showrunner, Dave Erickson, Jack (Daniel Zovatto) just might return to Fear. According to an interview Erickson did with TVLine, he is interested in seeing more of the dynamics between Jack and Alicia. “There’s something interesting about Jack to me and his relationship with Alicia,” he told TVLine. He also added that, if the circumstances were right, perhaps these two could have a second chance.
Connor (Mark Kelly) was last seen being bitten by his brother after Madison (Kim Dickens) returned him as part of a hostage deal. Fans have been wondering if maybe Connor survived this attack and would return minus an arm further on in Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead. Dave Erickson, put a definite damper on this rumor.
“No, he’s gone. If you’re bitten, that’s it. You’re not gonna see a turnaround… you will not see him again.”
Another character that has an ambiguous death is Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades). While it seems Daniel’s story is complete for Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead, it is entirely possible — likely, even — this character could pop up further down the track. Dave Erickson was very eager to point out to Yahoo! that fans didn’t “see Daniel burn for a reason.” Erickson is very keen to see Daniel return in Season 3 — but in what state will Daniel be in?
Celia (Marlene Forte) is yet another character whose death was never seen onscreen. Fans are already speculating on the fact she wasn’t seen among the infected as Daniel entered and this could mean she is still alive somewhere. Another person who was potentially absent during this scene was her son, Luis (Arturo del Puerto), adding more fuel to speculation that Celia somehow escaped. And as one Reddit user pointed out, the image below shows at least one possible escape route for Celia, a woman who probably knows the compound better than anyone there.
Alex (Michelle Ang) was one very angry character when we last saw her in Episode 5 (entitled “Captive”) of Fear The Walking Dead. But she was definitely a character who was alive and well. There is absolutely no ambiguity there. And that means only one thing in the Walking Dead universe; she is likely to return at some point. The question, however, is when. While Dave Erickson suggested Alex could return, he gave no time frame or hints about why she might meet up with the core cast again. “Alex sort of vanished into the ether at the end of Episode 5, and I’m curious to know where she went,” is all Erickson would reveal on the matter.
Tobias (Lincoln A. Castellanos) has been a longtime favorite of fans of Fear The Walking Dead. He appeared only briefly at the very start of Season 1, but once again, he didn’t die, so fans are hopeful. And, considering the actor who plays Tobias recently went on the record to say it was only a matter of time before his character re-emerged, it looks like fans have something to get really excited about.
“I’ll say this, in general as far as the series goes not just Season 2, I don’t think it’s a question of if he’ll come back, it’s really more of when. When will the time be right for him to return, and what condition will he return in?”
Season 2 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead returns Sunday, August 21 with Episode 8 at 9 p.m. ET.
The official synopsis for the second half of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead is below.
“As Fear The Walking Dead embarks on the second half of season two, the Clark, Manawa and Salazar families fracture. The events that took place at the Abigail compound have set all of our heroes adrift. Now they must forge their own paths to survive.”
