Drake Uses Christian Song ‘The Question Is’ For ‘Views’ Track — Album Finally On Spotify

Drake raps about Christianity here and there throughout his songs, so perhaps it comes as no surprise that Drake would borrow from a famous Christian song for his “Views” song track from the Views album. In 1985, the gospel group named the Winans released their song titled “The Question Is,” as seen in the below YouTube video.

“The Question Is” features a series of questions about devotion and faith, and Drake’s “Views” used the opening stanza for his own song — even if Drake’s “Views” didn’t borrow much beyond the opening question. The melody and lyrics are unmistakably those belonging to the original song, however, which speak of looking at the world around the listener and thinking beyond earthly things.

“The question is: Will I ever leave you?
The answer is: No, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

The question is: When will Jesus return?
I want you to know soon, soon
Soon, soon, soon, soon.”

As reported by Genius, Drake also used a sample from the song for the beat for his “Summer Sixteen” song. Those wanting to hear Drake’s NSFW “Views” and other songs can finally listen to them on Spotify. Initially, Drake’s new album could only be heard as an Apple Music exclusive.

Within the “Views” song, Drake also mentions Christianity when he rhymes about people being quick to double-cross a person, as if Drake and the person double-crossing him are both Christians. Drake uses a play on the Christian cross and “double-cross” in that line.

However, with all this rhyming about Christianity, one would wonder if Drake was a Christian himself. Back when Drake dropped his “How About Now” song, Drake rapped about going to church for a woman even though he wasn’t a Christian, as reported by Genius. Drake rapped that he bought the mystery woman’s father presents for Christmas — and the man didn’t say thank you to Drake.

Drake has spoken of his Jewish heritage and even crashed a bat mitzvah, as reported by MTV News. But with all those references to the number 6 from the “6 god” of Toronto that is Drake, fans can’t help but wonder where Drake’s faith lands these days as new songs reveal Drake’s thoughts.

In “One Dance,” Drake sings about praying a lot to make it back in one piece and of a higher power taking hold of him, as reported by Genius. Interspersed with those lyrics about faith are scenes of raw sexuality, the kind of stuff displayed between Drake and Rihanna in their hot “Work” chemistry, currently found in plenty of social media videos showing Ri-Ri twerking all over Drake.

However, as Drake matures and keeps offering more about his beliefs, it’s an interesting journey to see the slices of Christianity that Drake borrows from famous Christian songs and to see how much more of “The Question Is” lyrics, as seen below, will pop up in Drake’s psyche and soul in the years to come.

“Oh, I love the Lord for He’s so dear to me
Oh, He died that I might be free
I was asked this question and the answer is still no

I’m presenting my body, a living sacrifice
All I’m gonna do is the will of Christ
I was asked this question and the answer is yes

Now the question is: Will I do his will?
And it’s yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes

I was at home late one night
The Lord asked me would I do His will
I told Him yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes

Look at the crisis in Iran
Russia’s already invaded Afghanistan

Oh, if you’ve questioned when Christ is coming
The answer is soon.”

Warning: Drake’s “Views” song contains language that might be offensive to some listeners.
