Michigan Powerball Winner Contacts Lottery To Claim $337 Million Prize

Someone in Michigan is about to get $337 million richer. The Michigan Powerball winner contacted lottery officials on Wednesday to claim the third largest jackpot in Powerball history.

The Michigan Lottery has not released any details yet, and officials said that they were keeping the winner’s identity a secret until the prize had been officially claimed.

The lottery said in a statement: “Details about the prize-winner will not be released until the prize, the third largest in Powerball history, is claimed.”

According to Reuters, the winning ticket was purchased in Lapeer, Michigan at a Sunoco gas station. The winner will be able to take the $337 million jackpot in annual payments over the next 29 years or they can accept a one-time payment of $224.66 million.

The Michigan Lottery has not said if the winning ticket has been verified yet. According to the Lansing State Journal, the Powerball winner has one-year from the sale of the ticket to claim the prize.

It’s been a big year for big jackpots. The largest cash payout in Powerball history came earlier this year when Louise White won claimed $336.4 million, and the largest US lottery jackpot occurred in March when three people split a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot.
