Megyn Kelly: If Donald Trump Is ‘Less Of A Bully’ He Can Win Over Women At Polls

Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump have had a pretty contentious relationship, which has included Trump slamming Kelly on Twitter and opining that she is “not a quality journalist.” But now, Kelly says, she thinks they will be able to move forward and leave all that behind them as they prepare for a new interview on May 17.

Kelly told Extra that both of them are tired of their highly-publicized beef, saying she wanted to clear the air before they sit down for an interview.

“I asked him if he would take a meeting with me because I think we had enough of what was going on. It was a chance to sort of clear the air and get back on solid footing so we could go forward, I hope in a more positive way. And perhaps he’ll come on The Kelly File from time to time,” Kelly said.

After the first Fox News Republican debate last year, Trump made it clear that he wasn’t fond of Kelly and said he didn’t think she had treated him fairly.

“I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair. Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as FOX deserves,” Trump said.

Following their heated exchanges, Kelly debuted a new short haircut that she says came because she wanted to be in a stronger place.

“We change when we get in a different phase. I think I was just in a stronger mood,” Megyn Kelly told People.

Despite their history, Megyn Kelly says she thinks Trump can change his numbers with female voters if he focuses more on the economy and job creation rather than commenting on his thoughts regarding women.

“At some point vulgarity can be refreshing, but it can also just be offensive. The comments about women, I don’t think women love that. But I don’t know that it’s going to drive their vote…I think if Trump behaves himself and acts presidentially, and isn’t so much of a bully — which women tend to not appreciate, either — he can move those numbers a bit,” Kelly said in a recent interview.

Trump has raised eyebrows with his continued bashing of Hillary Clinton during his campaign, particularly after he claimed she uses the “woman card” to get ahead in ways her male opponents can’t.

“Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5% of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the woman’s card. And the beautiful thing is women don’t like her, okay? And look how well I did with women tonight,” Trump said last month.

Still, Megyn Kelly insists that we should not underestimate Trump or his ability to win the nomination.

“I think at this point it’s very likely he’s going to win the nomination. Trump has made fools out of a lot of people who have discounted him and underestimated him. I think it’s very difficult to count him out. You never know what to expect, I can attest to that.”

Megyn Kelly Presents will air on May 17 on Fox at 8 p.m.
