Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano arrested in New Jersey money laundering probe


44 people, including New Jersey Mayor, Peter Cammarano, other high ranking government officials as well as 5 Rabbis were arrested Thursday morning in FBI raids in New Jersey and Brooklyn NY. The raids are part of an international money laundering investigation involving 10’s of millions of dollars per year being funneled through charities managed by the Rabbis.

Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, Secaucus Mayor Denis Elwell, Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Baldini, Jersey City Council President Mariano Vega and two state assemblymen were arrested as well as a slew of others in early morning raids.

Paul Cammarano was arrested and will be charged with accepting bribes. Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith is charged with taking $15,000 in bribes in exchange for approving building permits and Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt is also charged with accepting bribes.

The money earned through illegal activities was being laundered through several charities managed by the Rabbis.
