Obama To NASA: Let Me Know Immediately If You Find Any Martians

During a congratulatory call to the NASA team responsible for landing the Curiosity Rover on Mars last week, President Obama made it clear that he wants to be the first to know if there are Martians on the red planet.

Obama said:

“If in fact you do make contact with Martians, please let me know right away… because I’ve got a lot of other things on my plate, but I suspect that will go to the top of the list, even if they’re just microbes.”

Obama told the team that he “could not be more excited” about the Curiosity Rover and called the flawless landing last week a “mind-boggling” success.

Obama said:

“Through your dedicated efforts, Curiosity stuck the landing and captured the imagination and attention of millions of people, not just around the country but people all around the world… It’s really mind-boggling what you’ve been able to accomplish.”

Obama thanked and congratulated people like Charles Elachi, the director of JPL, and Adam Steltzner, the lead on Curiosity’s entry, but he also gave a special thanks to Bobak Ferdowski, who became an internet meme after the landing.

Obama thanked Ferdowski for showing that there are some “cool” people at NASA.

Obama said:

“I understand there’s a special Mohawk guy that’s working on the mission… He’s been one of the many stars of the show last Sunday night. I in the past thought about getting a Mohawk myself…. It does sound like NASA has come a long way from the white shirts and the pocket protectors… You guys are a little cooler than you used to be.”

Would you like to see President Obama with a mohawk?

The Mars Curiosity Rover has sent back several photos over the last few days but there have been no signs of martians left. Maybe next week…
