Did Jeremy Calvert’s Job Impact ‘Teen Mom 2’ Leah Messer’s Health?

Jeremy Calvert’s job came up during a recent discussion about Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer’s decision to go to rehab last year.

On Monday, Messer will be seen in an episode of Steve Harvey talking about what led her to seek treatment. While chatting with the host and her fellow guests, Kailyn Lowry and Dr. Drew Pinsky, she mentioned Jeremy Calvert’s busy work schedule.

When Harvey asked Messer if she went to rehab for drugs, the reality star and mother explained, “It took me quite some time to decide whether I was going to go or not. I’m from West Virginia and everyone that I was around didn’t quite support me going away.”

During Teen Mom 2 Season 6, both Jeremy Calvert and Messer’s first husband, Corey Simms, were seen making claims regarding Messer’s alleged drug use. According to Jeremy Calvert, Messer was struggling with a prescription pill problem, while Simms made a more general statement and confronted Messer about hiding a “drug problem.” Still, throughout the season and online, Messer claimed her issues stemmed from mental health problems and not an addiction to drugs. She also noted narcolepsy at one point after she was featured on the show appearing to nod off with her infant niece in her arms.

“I knew I was suffering from something. I didn’t know what it was. I just knew that I was suffering and I needed help. It was just me and my husband was working out of town and I’m trying to do everything I can to take care of the girls,” Messer explained.

As fans have seen on Teen Mom 2, Jeremy Calvert works as a pipe layer and was required to travel out of town frequently, which took a toll on both Messer and their marriage and lead to their divorce during Season 6.

Continuing on to Harvey, Messer confirmed she did not seek treatment for drug abuse, explaining, “I was on the anxiety and depression track.”

As for Messer’s alleged narcolepsy, the topic was first brought up during an interview last year. As Radar Online revealed, Messer told Us Weekly she had taken her daughters, 6-year-old Ali and Aleeah, to school late due to her struggles with the sleeping disorder. Days later, however, she admitted that she hadn’t actually received an official diagnosis.

Jeremy Calvert married Messer in April 2012, and in February 2013, they welcomed their first child together, Adalynn, now 3. Then, after struggling with Jeremy Calvert’s hectic career throughout Teen Mom 2 Season 5, the couple announced plans to divorce in late 2014 amid rumors of drug use and Messer’s possible cheating.

While it was later revealed that Messer slept with her ex-husband while married to Jeremy Calvert in 2013, Jeremy Calvert also accused Messer of sleeping with her ex-boyfriend, Robbie Kidd, in 2014, which she denied.

Although fans will have to tune into Steve Harvey to see if Messer said anything else about Jeremy Calvert, she and her former partner will be seen having dinner together on Monday’s new episode of Teen Mom 2 Season 7. During the show, the former pair will speak of their divorce and Messer’s bad behavior.
