Jared Leto Gave Will Smith A Strange Present, Continues His 'Suicide Squad' Joker Method Acting

Jared Leto and Will Smith are set to co-star in the upcoming Suicide Squad, a possible comeback for DC and Warner Bros. after the critically disappointing Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Joker actor is said to be putting his own unique "spin" on his role, even going the route of method acting.

After having landed one of the most targeted roles in the upcoming movie, Leto decided he was going to set himself apart from previous versions of the "clown prince of crime." His appearance alone apparently wasn't enough, as most comic book film fans know that even the best-looking characters can be poorly done. Look no further than Arnold Schwarzenegger's version of Mister Freeze from Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin for proof of this.

Will Smith Wants Deadshot As Batman In Future DC Comics Movies

Jared Leto and Will Smith are both taking a different approach to their characters' appearance, though Smith's version of Deadshot is more recognizable to comic book fans. Leto's Joker was a shock to everybody, sporting the usual green hair, neon red lips, and white makeup which are the only indications that he's taking on the role that Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger made famous. His appearance deviates by eliminating the wild hair and adding a grill and tattoos all over his body.

In true Joker form, Leto gave Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie a pet rat, and she returned the sentiment by keeping it. In the DC comics universe, Harley Quinn has an unending and disturbing love for the Joker, even to the point of letting him abuse her. The actor continued this method acting trend by sending bullets to other cast members, including Will Smith. He also gave the entire cast a dead pig, which most likely raised some eyebrows.

Jared Leto told the press why he did that. "I did a lot of things to create a dynamic to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there. The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries."

That said, Jared Leto gave Will Smith anal beads and used condoms as well. He is definitely showing a deranged sense of humor, sending sexual products to his Suicide Squad co-star. He very well seems to be breaking down walls and possibly setting everybody up to just expect the weirdest things from him.

Common went on record as saying that Leto's gifts and bizarre behaviors were really an appreciated all-in approach, letting everybody know that Jared was dedicated to the role.

The overall story doesn't really put Jared Leto and Will Smith together at any given point we are aware of. Joker is the only villain in the film who isn't part of the Suicide Squad, a team of villains put together to complete a mission because they're expendable. CW's Arrow gave us a taste of the idea a while back, though this version puts a lot more Batman villains on one team.

It is yet unknown just how the Joker fits into the story, though it may be that they're expected to capture him. Of course, with Harley Quinn involved, we know that isn't going to go as planned.

Suicide Squad has inspired Jared Leto to do some very weird things, like giving Will Smith anal beads and used condoms. Will this mean an improved performance from everybody involved?
