Middle School Teacher Accused Of Luring Kids For Sex With Pizza, Alcohol and Drugs Parties
Shelby County, Indiana – Middle school teacher Bethany Appleton, 28, was arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old male student. Apppleton was a special education teacher for the Shelbyville Central School District. Indiana police officers arrested Bethany Appleton for allegedly hosting parties where pizza, alcohol and drugs were available and engaging in sexual misconduct with at least one young teen boy, according to the New York Daily News.
Indiana law enforcement officers believe the teacher engaged in sexual misconduct with more teenage boys but do not yet have enough evidence to charge her with additional sexual offenses. Bethany Appleton was fired from her teaching position, according to a statement Superintendent David Adams made to Fox 59 Indianapolis.
Appleton was charged with 13 counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, child seduction, maintaining a common nuisance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The special education middle school teacher plead not guilty to the felony charges.
The Bethany Appleton arrest is the second such occurrence at the Indiana school district in the past two months. Megan Crafton, 22, an assistant high school cheerleading coach was arrested for allegedly performing oral sex on a male student.
An Indiana police department affidavit states Appleton invited high school boys to her home for pizza and sex and that “hugging and kissing” allegedly occurred during the parties. The arrest documents also maintain that Bethany Appleton permitted the high school boys to smoke marijuana at her home and claim she drank alcoholic beverages with her students.
The alleged sexual misconduct with between the teacher and the 15-year-old male student and the pizza parties took place between April 2011 and May 2012, the Star Press reports. Bethany Appleton was held at the Shelby County Jail until bail was posted. She is expected to stand trial for sexual misconduct with a student in October.
