Five Guys Burgers and Fries Break-In: Man Makes Cheeseburger, Doesn’t Steal Money [Video]

The food chain known as Five Guys Burgers and Fries is such a popular one that even President Barack Obama had to take a bite from the burger joint years ago, prior to it growing to the level of popularity that Five Guys enjoys today. As seen in the above photo from Friday, May 29, 2009, President Obama made a stop at a Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Washington, D.C. With plenty of bags full of fattening goodies, the president likely got a taste of the burgers, hot dogs, and overflowing cups of Cajun fries that have won Five Guys a legion of fans over the years.

Well, Washington D.C. was also the location where a man recently took it upon himself to make his own version of a Five Guys cheeseburger. As reported by ABC News, the Five Guys Burgers and Fries break-in suspect didn’t steal money or other objects but he can be seen in the following security footage inside a Five Guys Burgers and Fries location making his own cheeseburger. Comments are flowing in below the article, where people think the man was either really craving a cheeseburger, or was simply so hungry that he took advantage of an opportunity to make his own Five Guys burger.

The break-in to the Five Guys restaurant happened on Friday, April 8, in Washington, D.C., but the security footage began to make the rounds online on Sunday, April 10. The difference in this particular security footage going viral is that it shows a man wandering around the kitchen area of the Five Guys eatery, picking up a spatula and turning on the grill. In general, security footage doesn’t usually show people breaking into eateries in order to cook themselves food.

The man entered the Five Guys eatery by following the trail of a delivery man, and waiting until the delivery man left to begin cooking his own Five Guys cheeseburger, reported the Metropolitan Police Department. He poured himself a soda, cooked a cheeseburger and took a bottle of water prior to leaving.

Five Guys stores are known for having their own self-serve soda machines that offer customers a variety of sodas to choose from.

The comments flowing into the article show the reasons viewers believe the man might have broken into the Five Guys to make himself a burger.

“My thinking is it looks like he knew what he was doing. He knew where to turn the gas on in the back room then turn the grill on as well. He knew where everything was. He either worked at that Five Guys or another one.”

“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”

“At Five Guys prices, this theft probably meets the felony threshold”

“This tell me a myriad of things: He was starving – the hungry will do anything to get food, which is very sad. He obviously had no money and no means to get any. He will do this again if he has to, to survive. He has nothing to lose. I wish I could meet him. I would treat him to a big dinner, and help him to get a job.”

“He apparently can afford to have a cellphone because he was using it as he was making himself a burger. Pretty sure he thinks he can do whatever he wants.”

For some folks, the video brings more questions than answers, such as those who write that they didn’t know Five Guys had delivery personnel, but it isn’t known if a person was simply delivering supplies to the Five Guys eatery when the hungry man broke in.

Others wonder why a man would risk getting into trouble just to make a burger. Some folks note that he skipped making himself some “delicious fries.”
