Katy Perry, Dolly Parton ACM Awards Performance Earns Standing Ovation [Video]
Country and pop came together last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards when Dolly Parton and Katy Perry took the stage for an amazing duet that earned them a standing ovation.
Perry and Parton performed a chain of country melodies made up of three of Dolly’s biggest hits. Katy traded in pop music to go a little bit country, and she was fabulous. These two famous ladies gave fans an electrifying performance that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
At the ACM Awards, Katy Perry awarded Dolly Parton with the Tex Ritter Award before they performed. Parton was honored with the award for her movie Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. The made-for-TV movie aired on NBC last year. It is based on the icon country singer growing up in the Great Smoky Mountains and was truly an amazing film. Katy showed mad love for Dolly and the film as she introduced the legendary country music star.
“She’s written over 3,000 in her amazing career which has translated into more than 100 million album sales world-wide. And of all of her songs, her favorite is ‘Coat of Many Colors.’ A whole new generation was introduced to that song with this past year’s TV movie of the same name, including me. One of the lines I really related to was: ‘If I can hold God’s attention, I can hold the world’s.’ And boy did this film hold the world’s attention. It’s the highest-rated network movie in over six years. It was seen by over 16 million people and is being honored tonight. Ladies and gentlemen my personal hero and a powerful woman Miss Dolly Parton!”
Shortly after that amazing introduction, Katy Perry and Dolly Parton gave the ACM Awards audience a get up on your feet and dance performance. Katy and Dolly not only looked like they had been singing for years, they had fans singing along the entire time they were on stage.

Parton and Perry’s ACM Awards performance kicked off with her hit song “Coat of Many Colors” in honor of the film. It was a very touching moment. The ladies soon turned the performance into Dolly’s greatest hits — two of her most iconic hits anyway. Katy and Dolly did an ode to “Jolene” and then went on to work in “9 to 5.”
Despite being one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, Perry certainly seemed in her element on stage with Parton. Whether it was because she was with a country legend or maybe she just has always wanted to be a little bit country, Katy was awesome. She and Dolly complimented each other in a very electrifying way on stage.
Dolly Parton and Katy Perry’s ACM Awards performance was a colorful and beautiful and something fans are not going to forget anytime soon. It was a wonderful tribute to a woman who has dedicated her life to country music and her fans. Although at first glance one might think that Parton and Perry together sounds disastrous, it was anything but disastrous. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Katy and Dolly were on stage together. Katy brought her stellar and unique voice to add a whole other layer to three legendary songs, which was fabulous.
It would be easy to simply just go on and on about the fantastic ACM Awards performance that Katy Perry and Dolly Parton gave last night. However, words won’t do it justice, you have to watch the video to get the electrifying feeling these two ladies bring to the stage.
