Big Sean And Jhene Aiko Release Album Titled ‘Twenty88’

Hip-Hop and R&B have collided to bring about a new project by two of their greatest artists.

Big Sean, born Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, recently announced a collaboration that would include the help of Jhene Aiko, a 28-Year-Old singer out of Los Angeles. Both known in their respective genres as popular artists, the duo has come out with a number of songs that were first streamed on Tidal. According to HotNewHipHop, the album contains eight songs that focus on relationships and all that comes with them. Titled TWENTY88, the project was released to Tidal just a short time after the two appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Since then, it has also been released on iTunes and Google Play.

HotNewHipHop also mentioned that a recent press release revealed that the project would tell “the story of the highs and lows of a relationship, with insights into conflict, memories, love, sex, and more”. This is more than evident in every track, as some of the songs upbeat while the others are slow and sensual. No stranger to these types of songs, Sean and Aiko deliver emotions and witty lyrics to TWENTY88. The meaning of the album’s name has remained unclear, though a Twitter account was registered with the album’s title on April 1.

Since then, various video clips and other media have surfaced on the account. One of the clips shows Big Sean sitting alongside Jhene Aiko in the back of a vehicle, exchanging unknowing glances while an instrumental plays over the video. The other clip, suggestive and rather close to Aiko’s person, shows her sharing a moment with an unknown individual. It is most likely Big Sean, though the focus does not reveal such.

Both Sean and Aiko’s Twitter accounts have been edited to reflect that they are each one half of TWENTY88. Additionally, their profile pictures have been changed to show the same cover for the TWENTY88 album. The cover shows Big Sean on one side, Jhene Aiko on the other wearing an orange wig.

This is not the first time that Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have collaborated on a project. Aiko was featured on his song “Beware” in 2013 on the Hall of Fame album, and then again on “I Know” in 2015 on the Dark Sky Paradise album. With such a relationship having been formed, TWENTY88 is a reflection of their ability to explore opposing sides of love and history. There are even reports of the sales projection that the album is expected to meet with its release.

TWENTY88 also features the voices of K-Ci and Jojo, an R&B duo responsible for such hits as “All My Life” and “Crazy.” They perform on the song “2 Minute Warning,” a snare-laced track produced by Noel Fisher, known by his alias “Detail.” Key Wane, Da Internz, and Tommy Brown are also included on the album, each having a hand in production. No other songs appear to have features on them, and it remains to be seen whether or not Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have a future project in store outside of this recently released album. The general reviews on iTunes have been positive, and the album’s price holds at $8.99.

The chemistry between Big Sean and Jhene Aiko is clear, as TWENTY88 is commonly described as a certain 90’s R&B and 70’s experimental rock by multiple sources such as Rap-Up and Complex. Aiko speaks highly of Big Sean in her interviews, and it’s no secret that the album is a nod to any who have been exposed to the roller coaster of partnership.
