Maryland Police Find Decomposing Human Head Behind Shopping Mall

Maryland police officers are investigating a partly decomposed human head found behind a shopping mall yesterday. The decomposing human head is believed to be female and was found in the Ritchie Highway and Jumpers Hole Road area in Pasadena, Maryland, according to the Baltimore Sun. A local man was taking a walk in the wooded area behind the Maryland shopping center when he discovered what he thought was a human skull.

“This type of thing is kind of rare,” Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy told the Washington Post.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit began searching the wooded area behind the Maryland shopping center for additional human remains after arriving on scene, Eye on Annapolis notes. A cadaver dog helped Maryland law enforcement officers locate more human remains, which are currently being reviewed by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore. The investigation into the identity of the decomposing head, additional separated human remains, and the cause of death is ongoing.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, volunteers from the Chesapeake Search Dogs, and Mason Dixon Search and Rescue Dogs, Incorporated also aided Pasadena, Maryland police officers in the decomposing head and remains search.

The Anne Arundel County law enforcement representative also noted that, although the decomposing head and separate human remains found behind the Maryland shopping center appear to be female, the police department is still considering the remains as an unidentified person. Pasadena, Maryland area authorities ask that anyone with possible information about the decomposing head and human remains contact Detective Regina Collier at the Anne Arundel county law enforcement office.
