Fosters sacks autistic employee over YouTube channel

Fosters, the makers of Australia’s joke to the world*, Fosters Beer has sacked an autistic employee over his YouTube content.

Karl Tilcock worked at the Castelmaine Perkins brewery in Brisbane for 12 years supporting a wife and two children, and posts comedy routines to YouTube under the name Austdingo, and his videos include him poking fun at his autism.

Tilcock told news.com.au that some of his routines did poke fun at Fosters, but said that he’d removed the offending material after originally receiving a letter for the company. Fosters said Tilcock was warned repeatedly about making videos in violation of company policy, and that it was clear from some videos that he was making them at work.

The Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union has instituted proceedings in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission to have Tilcock reinstated.

* Fosters was originally known as Carlton United Breweries and actually makes some great beers and owns the Southcorp wine business. However Fosters is not drunk in Australia, at least by more than a handful of people, presuming you can buy it here, which you usually can’t. It’s universally considered locally to be cats piss.
