Seven Killed In Quebec Plane Crash: Mother Bereft Of Two Sons And Daughter On Way To Husband’s Funeral

Tragedy struck Canada last night when a small plane crashed on a Quebec island late on Tuesday evening, leaving all seven passengers dead and a Quebec mother bereft of her two sons, her daughter, and her daughter-in-law who were on their way to her husband — their father’s — funeral. Among the seven killed in the Quebec plane crash are the pilot, a beloved former government minister for transport and broadcaster, and members of his family who were on their way to the funeral.

The government minister, Jean Lapierre, was a broadcaster and former Transport Minister for Canada, and had worked as a political analyst for multiple Canadian media outlets as well as hosting a radio-show for a Quebec station. Sadly, the Quebec plane crash has claimed his life and those of other members of his family — his wife, his brother, and his sister.

Lapierre and his family were on their way to the funeral in the Iles-de-la-Madeleine region when the treacherous Quebec winter weather and subsequent plane crash ended their lives, lending the Quebec plane crash a morbid and tragic irony. The tragedy has left the mother unthinkably bereft, her two sons, daughter, and daughter-in-law being four of the seven killed in the crash.

The Wall Street Journal confirms this, citing a conversation with a colleague of Lapierre’s at the radio station.

“A former federal cabinet minister and Montreal radio-show host, Jean Lapierre, was on board the plane and was traveling to the funeral of his father, according to Christine Dicaire, marketing manager for the radio station where Mr. Lapierre worked,” reports WSJ of the Quebec plane crash.“Ms. Dicaire said that Mr. Lapierre’s wife, brother and sister were also on board the plane.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has tweeted his distress over the twofold tragedy and sympathy for the seven killed in the Quebec plane crash.

According to BBC Canada, the plane crash occurred as the aircraft approached Iles-de-la-Madeleine Airport, when it succumbed to “heavy winds and snow.” BBC Canada went on to say that the Quebec plane crash will undergo due investigative process.

“Officials with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are en route to Havre aux Maisons Island in the Magdalen Islands to determine the cause of the crash,” reports BBC Canada.

With seven killed in the Quebec plane crash, and a mother bereft of her two sons and daughter on the way to her husband’s funeral, a thorough investigation is set to take place. Speaking to WSJ about the tragedy, Quebec provincial police Sgt. Daniel Thibaudeau said that the weather conditions were “not ideal” during the plane’s flight time — the plane having departed Montreal that morning — including “fairly windy conditions with some freezing precipitation” in its path.

“He said there was snow on the ground and investigators will look into what role, if any, those conditions may have played,” explained WSJ of the Quebec plane crash investigation.
