Why Mariah Carey & James Packer Put Their Wedding On Hold ‘Indefinitely’ [Report]

Mariah Carey’s upcoming wedding to James Packer has allegedly been put on hold “indefinitely.”

According to a new report by the Sydney Morning Herald, Carey and Packer have made the decision to delay their big day for the foreseeable future as Mariah is supposedly butting heads with Packer’s mom.

The site is reporting that James’ mom, Ros Packer, has been “putting on a happy face” since Mariah and the Australian businessman announced their engagement back in January, but has supposedly been less than thrilled about the upcoming nuptials behind-the-scenes.

A source alleged earlier this week that Packer’s mom is just too different to the “bells, whistles and flashbulbs” Mariah, and their different lifestyles have been causing serious friction between the two in recent months.

“They are very different women,” the insider told the Sydney Morning Herald of Ros Packer and Mariah Carey, “Ros is a woman raised in the country with very traditional values who has maintained a dignified silence for all the years she and Kerry [James’ dad] were in the spotlight.”

The site is also claiming that it’s not just Packer’s mom who’s putting a strain on the couple, as the guest list is also allegedly causing problems. Supposedly, Mariah is looking to only invite around 50 guests to the big ceremony, which means leaving Packer’s closest friends and family out in the cold.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the current guest list is mainly made up of “Carey’s Hollywood posse” while James’ sister, Gretel, and his niece and nephews may not have made the cut.

Reports that there may be trouble in paradise for Carey and Packer comes just days after Mariah revealed in an interview with the New York Daily News that her fiancé will not be by her side when her new docu-series, Mariah’s World, hits screens later this year.

“He’s a legit businessman,” Mariah explained of her future husband’s absence from the upcoming E! series. At the time, “It’s not really his thing to be, like, traipsing all over Europe and hanging out with all my crew and dancers and singers.”

But while it appears that Carey and Packer have slowed things down when it comes to walking down the aisle, Mariah previously revealed to E! News back in January that she and James were initially planning on tying the knot sooner rather than later.

“If everything works out, it will be somewhat soon,” Mariah told the site at the time, “I don’t mean if everything works out in that way, I mean there’s a lot that goes into it.”

Carey also spoke out about the size of her upcoming nuptials during her candid wedding talk earlier this year, where she confessed to E! News that she and James are planning on having a smaller, more intimate ceremony when they do eventually make it down the aisle.

“We are not doing a big wedding because he did two big weddings,” Mariah told the site of her more humble wedding plans back in January. “It’s kind of like, I’ve done a big wedding [too], we would rather make it beautiful but humble.”

But despite the recent rumors that Carey and Packer may not be heading down the aisle anytime soon, that doesn’t mean they two are heading for a split. The Daily Mail revealed earlier this week that Packer was spotted at Carey’s concert at London’s O2 arena on March 23 where an onlooker revealed that he was “cheering on Mariah from the crowd.”
