Gwen Stefani Talks Blake Shelton And Gavin Rossdale, ‘There Has Been A Lot Of Dishonesty Around Me’

Gwen Stefani has experienced a lot of change over the past year. Along with her break up with Gavin Rossdale, the No Doubt frontwoman found a new romance with Blake Shelton and discovered how to turn her emotional turmoil into meaningful music. While her newest album continues to climb the charts, Stefani recently opened up about her divorce with Rossdale and how much Shelton has helped her along.

In an interview with GQ, Stefani explained how she didn’t want to do anything following her divorce with Rossdale. In fact, Stefani admitted that turning to music was the last thing on her mind. Instead, The Voice star revealed that the only thing she wanted to do was “die.”

Fortunately for Stefani and her fans, she found a way to express herself through her music. However, she first had to deal with the feelings of embarrassment and mistrust after her split with Rossdale.

“I did not think anything. I wasn’t thinking. I was feeling and I was dying,” she told the magazine. “And then I was just like, ‘You can’t go down like this! You have to turn this into music. You have to try, at least.’ I was so embarrassed by just everything. I just didn’t want to be that person that just went down after all of that.”

According to E! Online, Gwen Stefani’s newest album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, is the result of everything that she has gone through in the past year. Because of the emotional attachment to the album, Stefani went on to explain how it was important for her to release the project in real time.

“Everything happens so fast. It’s all happening in real time in the sense that, “Used to Love You” came out only a couple weeks after I wrote it,” she stated. “The only reason I did that was just being honest. There’s been a lot of dishonesty around me, and I just don’t understand that because it’s just not how I live.”

So far, This Is What the Truth Feels Like has been met with a lot of success since its debut. According to Billboard, her new album is on track to become her first solo work to reach the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Stefani has released three solo albums in her music career, including The Sweet Escape and Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Until now, none of her solo works have reached the top spot on the charts, though her band’s album Tragic Kingdom sat at the top for nine weeks in the ’90s.

In addition to her references to the divorce with Rossdale, the NY Daily News is reporting that the new album also alludes to her romance with Shelton. Stefani and Shelton’s relationship began back in November during their time together as judges on The Voice.

Although Stefani doesn’t mention Shelton by name, her lyrics allude to her romance with the country star. This includes the song “Make Me Like You” on the album, which features a lighter tone and mentions falling for a new lover.

Apart from her newly revived music career, Stefani is also slated to appear in the new season of The Voice. Although she won’t return as a full judge this season, Shelton has brought her back as one of his mentors this time around.

While fans have the opportunity to listen to Stefani’s newest album, the singer is currently spending her spring break with Shelton and her children in Oklahoma. Clearly, her romance with the country star is still helping Stefani deal with the hurt following her divorce with Rossdale.
