Selena Gomez Opens Up About ‘Unfair’ & ‘Painful’ Split From Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez is opening up about the drama that surrounded her split with Justin Bieber and how she’s “figuring out” her life following their dramatic break-up.

Speaking out about her 2015 split with Bieber in a new interview with LOOK magazine, Selena admitted that she felt the intense interest and constant media presence that focused on their break-up was both “unfair” and “painful.”

“I thought the public perception of me was so wrong and that so much that was being said about me was unfair and painful,” Gomez confessed in the new interview, where Selena also got candid about her and Bieber’s dramatic break-up.

“Even when there are a million reasons to end something, there will be times when you can’t help it,” Selena told LOOK of her and Justin’s big split, “You will go through times that are painful and you’re going to make mistakes.”

But while Selena is getting candid about the drama that surrounded her break-up from Bieber, Gomez also admitted to the magazine that she’s not letting her past mistakes define her future.

“I feel confident and [in] control now,” Selena said of how she feels looking back at her past relationship with Justin, admitting that she’s learned over the years “how to deal with the public side of [her] life.”

“Ultimately, I am 23-years-old and figuring out my life,” Gomez continued, “I feel confident, I feel empowered, I’m in control. I’m evolving in a way I feel really good about.”

Selena’s Justin Bieber talk in her new interview with the U.K.’s LOOK magazine comes just days after Selena and Justin appeared to confirm that things are currently all good on social media.

Gomez and Bieber, who intermittently dated for almost five years from 2010 until last year, confirmed that there’s no bad blood between them last week after Justin took to Instagram to post a throwback photo of himself and Selena kissing.

Captioning the romantic photo “feels,” Gomez later commented on the sweet snap that she thought it was “Perfect.”

While Justin and Selena are neither confirming nor denying that there recent social media interaction is the sign of an upcoming reconciliation, it appears that Gomez has gone back on her word to no longer publicly speak out about her and Bieber’s rocky romance.

Speaking to Rolling Stone earlier this year, Selena stated that she was “so done” with her former relationship and vowed that she would no longer be talking about their past relationship.

“Well, I am sorry, first of all. And honestly, what I would love to be printed is that I am so beyond done with talking about that, and him,” Selena told the site last month.

Gomez made a similar statement about Justin to W magazine, where she confessed that although she cares about Bieber’s “health and well-being” she was “so done” speaking about their relationship. “I’m so exhausted,” Selena Gomez said, “I honestly am so done. I care about his health and well-being. But I can’t do it anymore.”

In the same interview, Gomez also got candid about the intense media scrutiny that surrounded their rock romance, as Selena admitted that the constant media presence left her banging her head against the wall.

“At first I didn’t care. To me it was: I’m 18, I have a boyfriend, we look cute together, we like that,” Gomez said, “Then I got my heart broken and I cared. Because people had no idea what was going on, but everywhere it was a million different things. I was kind of in a corner, banging my head against the wall. I didn’t know where to go.”
