Jeremy Renner Is Willing To Play Hawkeye In Netflix Original Series

Jeremy Renner revealed he would be willing to reprise his Avengers role of Hawkeye for an original Netflix series on Saturday. According to The Wrap, Renner was speaking at the Silicon Valley Comic Con when he revealed a desire to explore the Hawkeye character in more depth.

Though Jeremy has appeared as Hawkeye in four Marvel feature films, including Thor, The Avengers, Avengers: The Age of Ultron, and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, Renner’s character has repeatedly been a side note compared to other members of the Avenger‘s team. While Thor, Ironman, and Captain America all received feature films based on their characters that were financially successful, and even The Hulk had been explored before Mark Ruffalo took over the role in the Avengers films, there has been no discussion of films featuring Jeremy Renner or Scarlett Johansson’s characters Hawkeye and Black Widow.

Netflix has given life to a variety of Marvel characters including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the upcoming Luke Cage series so Jeremy Renner thinks it might be just the perfect venue for Hawkeye to get some recognition with fans.

“I’ve really started to enjoy exploring the character more as of recently,” Renner told the comic con audience according to Cosmic Book News. “The Netflix model is really a fantastic way to…that’s where all the character drama goes to now.”

Though many may think Jeremy Renner is just looking for a ride on the Marvel gravy train, Jeremy’s career is far from stalled at being nothing more than a bow wielding super hero. Renner recently starred in last year’s highly successful Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and is said to be preparing for a return to the next Bourne sequel, reprising his role as Aaron Cross.

So could it be that Renner wants a Hawkeye series because he genuinely loves the character? According to Cinemablend, Jeremy found the glimpse into Hawkeye’s personal life during the Avengers sequel intriguing. In fact, Renner had hoped the Avengers powers that be would give Jeremy his own feature film centered around the character.

“We got to dive into him some more,” Renner said of Hawkeye’s personal life. “Very excited about the outcome of it, and where it can go in the future. But all I can do is want. And that’s all I can do. It all comes down to the content, and really how the puppeteers at Marvel can manifest a story that’s worthy of a solo movie.”

But given the influx of superhero movies and last year’s epic bombing of the rebooted Fantastic Four, the Marvel higher ups may see Jeremy Renner’s minimalistic character as too much of a gamble as a feature film. And while Netflix may be the perfect venue for a series on Hawkeye, there has to be some question as to whether or not the streaming service could afford Jeremy Renner to play the role.

According to MoviePilot, Renner received a hearty $6.1 million for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Jeremy appeared for a total of twenty minutes on the screen for the film, meaning Renner earned a little over $300K per minute. Given that the Netflix original series vary from forty-five to sixty minute episodes, one has to wondered how committed to the character of Hawkeye Jeremy Renner really is.

So what do you think? Should Netflix make a Marvel series featuring Hawkeye? And if so, do you think Jeremy Renner will reprise the role?
