Get A First Look At ‘Team,’ Iggy Azalea’s New Single That She Isn’t In The Video For

Iggy Azalea is really getting “Fancy” this time. The Australian hip-hop artist just dropped her new single “Team,” which is about having confidence and rooting for yourself in life. Strangely enough, though, Azalea herself isn’t in the music video for “Team,” almost as if she is trying to put the focus on herself without putting the focus on herself. With empowering lyrics like “Baby I got me, Baby I got me/And that’s all I need,” “Team” seems to be a reaffirmation of Azalea’s strong will and independence.

Despite the fact that Iggy recently faced criticism from Azealia Banks and “hacktivist” collective Anonymous over her appropriation of black culture, “Team” seems to announce her return to the limelight. As Inquisitr reported, Azalea suffered from a “psychotic breakdown” in 2015, possibly why she decided to lay low and withdraw from social media entirely last year.

“Team” will be on Azalea‘s new album Digital Distortion when the album drops later this year. The first track off of Digital Distortion, entitled “Azillion,” can be streamed for free on Azalea’s SoundCloud page. Wikipedia mentions that a music video for “Team” will be released shortly after the dance video Iggy Iggs just dropped today.

Azalea was born Amethyst Amelia Kelly in Sydney, Australia, on June 7, 1990, and dropped her first album The New Classic in 2014. That album featured cameos from Charli XCX and Rita Ora, and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album as well as a Billboard Music Award nomination for Top Rap Album. Iggy Iggs has since worked with a range of different artists, from Ariana Grande and T.I. to 50 Cent and Britney Spears. Interestingly enough, though, many people don’t consider Iggy’s music to be from the “true” roots of rap, instead labeling her a hip-hop artist in the vein of Nicki Minaj.

Whatever the case is, it’s clear Iggy is still relevant in today’s music; her video for “Team” has already gotten 3,000,000 plus views today alone. The dance video features a group of dancers dressed like something out of a Missy Elliott video and dancing vigorously while Iggy’s lyrics are shown superimposed over their dance sequences. The words “Baby I Got Me” are repeatedly used throughout the song, thus enhancing Iggy’s main themes of strength and self-worth.

The song also offers a rare glimpse of Iggy singing non-rap vocals (and they sound pretty good, for the record). The catchy dance beat paired with Iggs’ flair for rapping make the song both accessible and profound, and possibly one of her more meaningful works up until this point. Hopefully, Digital Distortion will offer more of the same when it hits stores.

While there’s no word on the exact release date of Iggy’s new album, it will be happening in 2016 for sure. As Rap-Up discovered, Iggy tweeted this past October that she had just shot the art for her new album’s cover and expressed her excitement to fans.

If you can’t get enough Iggy, you can always visit her SoundCloud page, where Hollywood Life notes she recently dropped the track “Azillion” to drum up some hype for Digital Distortion. Iggy also recently contributed some sweet verses to Demi Lovato’s “Kingdom Come” and Britney Spears’ “Pretty Girls,” so be sure to check them out if you want more of the Australian artist before her next album is publicly released.
