Jennifer Garner Explains Oscar Dress Woes To Jimmy Fallon, Needs Ribs Removed

Jennifer Garner looked stunning at the Oscars in her black Versace dress, but as it turns out, her va-va-voom look turned out to be a painful experience. While promoting her new faith-based film Miracles From Heaven, Garner attended The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. While she was there, the two got to talking about her stunning look for the ceremony, which Garner said was quite the process.

To Jimmy Fallon’s delight and slight horror, the mother of three decided to describe, in detail, just how she decided to get in her dress.

During the segment, she joked to Fallon, “This was Versace, and they made it just for me. Do you know how they make it? See how I have a waist right there? I don’t have one in real life anymore.”

Garner continued to detail her woes about how she fit into the dress. Although it was a feat to get her into the dress, she said that even while she was in it, it was a very uncomfortable experience.

“What they do is they move your organs around. There are basically two men who come in with screwguns, and they screwed me into a metal corset—this isn’t true, but it was a metal corset and it did take two Italian people. The next thing you know, my ribs were compressed.”

The host of The Tonight Show tried to picture it and asked if it was anything like Spanx. Garner protested and said that wearing the dress was nothing like Spanx and compared it to body contortion.

“No, dude! It’s not like that. It’s so intense! It’s very intense. It’s not like Scarlet O’Hara. There’s metal inside and these people just kind of move your ribs and they move your liver out of the side and they pop you in. To keep you in place, you step into a bodysuit first, which is like the bottom of a leotard, but it’s a thong.”

It isn’t surprising to hear she had some trouble. After all, the actual ceremony is a three-hour affair where everyone is expected to sit and clap as people in the film industry go up to collect their awards. The recently single Garner, who went with one of her best friends, said that just sitting in the stunning dress was a pain. The tipping point for her was having to go to the bathroom during the ceremony but not being able to stand up. Usually during the ceremony, no one can leave until a commercial break.

Terrified that she would be seen as protesting the ceremony, Garner started to have an internal dialogue of sheer panic. Fortunately, she didn’t have to disrupt the ceremony. That said, when she got to the bathroom, her dress caused a bit of a problem and made her feel like a bride on her wedding day, as she was unable to go to the bathroom unless she had assistance.

“It’s not pretty…It’s worse than a toddler in a snowsuit because of the bodysuit. Do you see what I’m saying? The connection of the bodysuit, because it had a hook and eye situation, was in an intimate position. It was like in my vageen, OK?”

She continued, to Fallon’s delight, “I couldn’t reach it, you know what I’m saying? So, I said to my friend, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I think you’ve got to get this.’ I couldn’t reach it.”

Fortunately, Garner and her friend figured it out, and we weren’t bombarded with headlines of the Alias actress branded as the new Kanye West.

Her new film, Miracles From Heaven, is out in theaters now.
