‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Sofia Pernas Out As Marisa, Joins The CW Pilot ‘Transylvania’ As A Recast [Updated]

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) may be the number one soap opera on television right now, but it looks like they have to let a few contract characters go to save money. Deadline reported that Sofia Pernas (Marisa) was let go on Monday due to budget cuts. It’s hard to feel too badly for the actress because she landed a prime-time role in the CW pilot Transylvania just hours after being fired from Y&R.

Sofia debuted on The Young and the Restless in 2014 as a young (pretty) Latina woman that would help Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) back to Genoa City after Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) had him kidnapped by Kelly Andrews (Cady McClain). Marisa helped Jack get back home to his new bride and was a big part of bringing Marco Annicelli (Peter Bergman) down. Instead of leaving town after Marco was sent to the Peruvian prison again, she stayed in town and built a new life for herself, and fell in love with Noah Newman (Robert Adamson).

Once she felt life was getting back to normal, a surprise showed up in town — her husband, Luca Santori (Miles Gaston Villanueva). She struggled with a love/hate relationship with him, and even tried to reconcile with him briefly. In the end, she demanded a divorce from the Latino stud so she could finally marry Noah. The Young and the Restless fans aren’t sure how the writers will write her off the show. Surely they won’t kill her off like Noah’s fiancée, Courtney (Kelli Goss) a few years ago.

For many The Young and the Restless fans, they aren’t buying the story that Sofia was released from her contract due to budget cuts. It seems more likely that the show realized that her storyline wasn’t going anywhere, so they decided to end her run on the CBS soap opera.

Serial Scoops reported that Sofia’s last episode on The Young and the Restless could be in mid-April due to the fact the show tapes up to six weeks in advance. Sofia Pernas was booked on the CW pilot Transylvania just 24 hours after losing her job. She auditioned and landed the role within 24 hours. And here, 48 hours later, she reportedly boarded an airplane to get started taping the show. Pernas will play the character Coriander, who is an exotic gypsy, the leader of the matriarchal Szgany clan that runs the fleshpots of the Old City — the haunted spot where Vlad the Impaler once killed thousands of their tribe.

Sofia replaced Amrita Acharia, who was originally supposed to portray Coriander. She was cast as a series regular and is expected to be picked up for a regular season in the coming months. The Young and the Restless fans will miss Sofia Pernas’ presence on the show; however, it seems like she has gone on to better opportunities. The Inquisitr would like to wish her the best of luck in her new gig.

Update:

CBS spokesperson clarified the report about Pernas departure from The Young and the Restless. “She’s recurring and will continue to be seen on the show,” the rep stated. So it looks like she will still around, but won’t be on any front burner storylines as she filming the pilot right now. Whew! That’s a huge relief for many fans!
