While there were no jackpot winners in last night’s Mega Millions drawing, one lucky player from California won $1 million by matching all five of the white numbers minus the Mega Ball number. California is a parimutuel state and the exact size of the prize may vary based upon how many lottery tickets were sold in the state.
No one won the Match 5 with the Mega Millions multiplier that would have increased the prize to $4 million.
Fifteen winning tickets were sold with the Match 4 plus the Mega Ball for a win of $5,000. One ticket used the Mega Millions multiplier and won a total of $20,000.
Mega Millions is the second most popular lottery game known for large jackpots following Powerball. There are several advantages to playing Mega Millions when compared to Powerball. First, Mega Millions tickets are cheaper as Powerball tickets are $2 per game and Mega Millions tickets are $1. Mega Millions jackpots reset to $15 million and Powerball jackpots reset to $40 million following each grand prize win; however the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are more favorable than those for Powerball. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 258,890,850 and the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday and take place live from Atlanta, Georgia.
Both Mega Millions and Powerball offer a multiplier (called the Power Play multiplier with Powerball) that increases the amount of non-jackpot prizes. Both the Mega Millions and Powerball multipliers are an additional $1. However; the Powerball multiplier is capped at $2 million for second-tier or Match 5 prizes. Mega Millions tickets that add the multiplier will have the second-tier prize multiplied by the multiplier amount. Those who win the second-tier prize on Mega Millions with the multiplier can actually win more than they would if they had played Powerball for the second-tier prize with the multiplier.
The rules for playing Mega Millions are simple and the game is easy to play. You can purchase tickets at your local convenience store and anyone who wants more information on lottery retailers can find them on their state’s lottery website. Mega Millions is a Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) game that is played in the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and in 44 states. You can find links to state lotteries that play Mega Millions at the official website.
Mega Millions is a fun, lottery jackpot game that is known for having large prizes. There are several advantages to playing Mega Millions as opposed to Powerball. Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday; Powerball drawings take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Due to the inexpensiveness of lottery tickets, some people play both games at each drawing. It is important to remember that lottery jackpot games like Mega Millions and Powerball are forms of gambling, therefore all players should remain aware for signs of addiction or risky behaviors. One way to prevent any type of addiction from forming is to set a regular budget as part of your entertainment expenses and only play with money you can afford to lose.
The next Mega Millions drawing will take place on Tuesday, March 15, and the jackpot is an estimated $20,000,000 with a cash value of $12 million.
