Christopher Meloni And Mariska Hargitay Reunite In Selfie — ‘SVU’ Fans Excited To See Benson And Stabler Together
Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay were once an unstoppable team on Law & Order: SVU. However, Meloni suddenly left the series in the season 12 finale. Despite recent rumors, the actor who portrayed Elliot Stabler on the NBC police drama is not returning to the Special Victims Unit. However, that doesn’t mean Mariska and Christopher don’t spend time together. Earlier today, Benson and Stabler fans were excited to see Christopher Meloni post a selfie with Mariska Hargitay.
Christopher Meloni posted the selfie with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay on Twitter. Both sported huge smiles and the SVU alum showed off a bushy beard. The caption didn’t reveal much information about the reason for the reunion, just that Meloni was “meeting peeps” in New York City.

Recently, it was rumored that Christopher was returning to Law & Order: SVU. The actor responded and denied any plans to come back to the NBC TV show. Meloni told HuffPost Live that he didn’t understand how the rumor began. However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, SVU showrunner Warren Leight said that if the show had not been renewed, they would have tried to get Christopher Meloni to come back for the final episode. This is likely what started the rumor of Christopher Meloni returning to Law & Order: SVU.
“If we weren’t coming back, there were a couple things I was absolutely going to do,” Warren Leight told The Hollywood Reporter. “We had been talking [about], had this been the last episode [of Law & Order: SVU], we would have tried to bring him [Christopher Meloni] back.”

However, Leight also admitted that there is only one person that would probably be able to rope Meloni back in. That individual is Mariska Hargitay, who still stars as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU.
“I think if Mariska were to have called him, he [Christopher] would have taken the call,” Leight told The Hollywood Reporter in reference to approaching Meloni to come back for the final episode of SVU. “That can be for another day, hopefully a long way off.”
On the last episode of Law & Order: SVU, fans were horrified that Olivia Benson was asked to pack up her desk. Many thought the actress was leaving the show. Some viewers even threatened to quit watching as a result of the Law & Order: SVU season 17 cliffhanger. As previously reported by Inquisitr, Mariska Hargitay is still part of the cast and was not fired, just transferred until the investigation into Tucker is complete. However, Benson’s job won’t be handed back to her. It was teased that Olivia is going to have a difficult time getting back into the Special Victims Unit. Even so, fans know Mariska’s character and she will find a way to get back into the SVU, where she belongs. It isn’t a matter of if Hargitay comes back, it is when.
As for Christopher Meloni, these days he is working on WGN America’s Underground. The history series focusing on the Underground Railroad was given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order from the network. Meloni is working on Underground with Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, and Jessica De Gouw. The series premiered on March 9, 2016, and has received great reviews.
