‘Bad Boys 3’ Happening After Marathon Negotiations With Will Smith

Bad Boys 3 is a go! After hours of negotiations, Will Smith is locked and ready to go on the upcoming installment. According to a report by TMZ, star Will Smith and producer Jerry Bruckheimer sat down for hours to go over negotiations that both suited them before either said yes.

According to a source, the two talked for four hours during dinner. The two spoke for so long that a second meeting needed to be scheduled for lunch. Smith and Bruckheimer, a star in his own right, had lunch and went through the script. Although it’s an unsigned deal right now, it’s considered a “done deal” that both will go forward with another installment.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Bad Boys 3. We started hearing about this news around August of 2014. Martin Lawrence, Will’s co-star in the R-rated buddy cop movie, let the cat out of the bag by confirming the installment. At the time, he broke the news to Conan O’Brien.

“I believe so, yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it’s real; they’re working on the script, they’re getting close, and it all looks good.”

After it was confirmed, we didn’t hear much about the film, as it was in early development. Then, a few weeks ago, the Inquisitr reported, a new confirmation from Will Smith that the film was definitely happening.

Of the upcoming installment, Smith said, “I saw Martin a few weeks ago. I haven’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We’re definitely doing another one.”

Despite going after huge tentpole projects, Smith isn’t usually a fan of doing sequels, but it seems like Bad Boys (and of course, Men in Black) are the exceptions to this rule. He said no to Independence Day 2 and was subsequently killed off so he didn’t have to return.

Our guess is the meetings between Will Smith and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were an attempt to iron out character arcs for Bad Boys 3. Also, they have a lot on their plate to talk about, given that there’s already rumors out there about a possible Bad Boys 4, too.

If Bad Boys 3 seems like a long time coming, it’s because Smith has been busy as of late. He just got off of an awards season run with his film Concussion, and he wrapped up filming Suicide Squad, which is expected to launch a whole new slew of DC movies for Warner Bros, along with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In addition, Smith is also taking a small break from acting in order to return to his music roots. Before his solo rap/pop career, Smith was known as one-half of the dynamic duo The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff. The movie star confirmed that he and Jeff have been working on new music for an upcoming album and tour.

During a recent interview, Smith said of going back to his roots and embarking on a tour, “I’m pretty certain I’m going on tour. Jeff and I actually never have done a full tour. I was always on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I was always either making a movie, so we’ve never actually done a full tour. So I’m looking this summer to be the first time that we go out on a full world tour.”
