The 88th Academy Awards (aka the 2016 Oscars) hit the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on February 28, and some of the world’s biggest stars pulled out all the stops when it came to strutting their stuff on the red carpet.

From the Oscars leading ladies – including Lady Gaga, Alicia Vikander, and Saoirse Ronan – take a look at 10 of the greatest gowns the 2016 Oscars had to offer.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

Oscars darling Alicia Vikander channeled her inner Belle from Beauty and the Beast with her gorgeous canary yellow strapless gown. Vikander’s Louis Vuitton Oscars dress featured silver embellishments across the bodice and skirt which perfectly matched her metallic sandals.

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé

Naomi Watts took Academy Awards fashion to a whole new level when she walked the 2016 Oscars red carpet looking like a mysterious metallic mermaid in this stunning purple and blue shimmering Armani Prive gown. E! even revealed during their red carpet coverage that the multiple Academy Award nominee’s husband, Liev Schreiber, actually had the final say on Watt’s Oscars look.
