Chrissy Teigen Chose Baby’s Sex During IVF Treatments, Defends Decision To Critics

Chrissy Teigen recently revealed that she and her husband singer John Legend chose the sex of their baby. Now, the supermodel is defending her decision to the critics who have lashed out at her on social media.

Teigen, who will be welcoming her baby girl this spring, recently spoke to People Magazine about choosing the gender of her child.

“Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo,” Teigen revealed. “I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.'”

Chrissy Teigen, who has been married to her husband John Legend for two years, said she wanted to have a daughter so John could have the father/daughter bond. Chrissy had already spoken about wanting to have more children, via IVF, and said they would have their boy later.

“I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl. That excited me,” she explained. “It excited me to see … just the thought of seeing him with a little girl. I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond. A boy will come along. We’ll get there too, so it’s not like we really have to pick. But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa — it’s crazy!”

Chrissy said she is excited to see how John reacts to being a parent. She said they have been together a long time, and pretty much know everything there is to know about each other, but neither of them have ever been parents so it will be interesting to see how they compare with their parenting styles.

“I’m excited to see what he is going to do because I think we’ll have two very different styles,” she said. “I’m excited to see that part of John; We’ve been together so long, and sometimes we look at each other and we’re like, ‘I know everything about you and you know everything about me,’ but we have no idea what we’re going to be like as parents. I think it’ll be really fun. I’m excited.”

Although Chrissy and John were thrilled to get to choose the sex of their baby, and can’t wait to be parents, many social media users jumped at the chance to criticize the couple for their decision.

While Chrissy attempted to ignore the comments at first, as the harassment ensued, so did her anger. Teigen had finally had enough, and decided to lash back at her critics.

“stop looking HERE for s*** to be mad at. there are so many other things that deserve your outrage,” Teigen tweeted. “from reading everything tonight, i think i made a mistake in thinking people understood the process better than they do, which is my fault..”

“we didn’t create a little girl. we had multiple embryos. girls and boys,” Chrissy continued. “we simply chose to put in a female first (and second)…we didn’t ‘throw away’ anything and still would love to have more of both in the future. hard to explain such a complicated process here.you’d be surprised at how many people you know go through this. also every doctor knows the sex of the embryos, it isn’t some grand secret.”
