‘Battleborn’ Developers Reveal Three More Heroes: A Mangled Clone, A Golem, And A Girl With A Monster

At launch, Battleborn players will find 25 characters to choose from to compete against their enemies or join their friends in the story mode. Nearly all of the playable characters are known now after today’s announcement showing off three new Battleborn. Only two more characters remain to be revealed, and PlayStation 4 players even have one more character to anticipate. A total of 26 heroes will be available to PlayStation 4 players when Battleborn launches on May 3, according to the PlayStation Blog.

Whiskey Foxtrot

First up in the trio of reveals today is Whiskey Foxtrot. If anyone could consider Oscar Mike a normal guy, then Whiskey Foxtrot is basically a weirder clone version of Mike. Wielding a custom tactical rifle and other scavenged Peacekeeper gear, Whiskey Foxtrot battles foes from afar with expert precision. The UPR-SL3 rifle is his main attraction with accuracy and a “Scrap Canon” attached to the bottom. He is also known to throw sticky bombs that detonate after three seconds. The Overdrive ability improves the rifle more so, letting Whiskey Foxtrot fire automatically for some time. Passively, Whiskey Foxtrot deals more damage after each kill, making him rather bothersome for foes at a distance.

Kelvin

At first glance, Kelvin is just some stone and ice golem, but Kelvin is actually a collection of sentient microorganisms taking form as a golem. He can take a hit while pummeling foes on the front line or he can use his Sublimate ability to turn into a gaseous form that chills and slows anything it touches. Kelvin is an especially interesting defender in Battleborn, too. If the character gets a kill with his Chomp ability, he gets a permanent health boost for the rest of the mission. Additionally, each time Kelvin uses an ability, he gives himself a little shield boost.

Shayne and Aurox

Finally, the third of the new characters revealed today is Shayne and Aurox. This character is actually a duo comprised of a teenage girl and her demonic creature attached to her upper body. Shayne, the girl, can throw a boomerang to inflict damage while Aurox, the creature, melees from her shoulders and acts as her shield. Shayne and Aurox can stealth under the battlefield or Aurox can be directed to targets to deal even more damage.

All three of the videos showing off these new Battleborn heroes take viewers through one of the campaign missions in the game’s story mode. Players that experienced the story mode during the Closed Technical Test will recognize the map since it is the same mission. However, the Whiskey Foxtrot video shows what happens after a player or group beats Geoff. Later, players will encounter the Galactic Emperor during the story mode mission with even more to come after that battle. The content after the Galactic Emperor is mentioned but not seen in the Shayne and Aurox video, though. Players familiar with the roster in Battleborn will definitely want to check out who can be unlocked during this story mission.

The latest character reveals also reiterate that the story mode in Battleborn can support anywhere from one to five players at a time. The missions will scale to the number of players on the team, making it possible to play through the story mode alone or with as many people as the team wants to include. Battleborn players can tackle the story mode solo, as a couple, a trio, a four-person party, or as a full five-man group. Not to mention, Battleborn on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One support splitscreen co-op play for two players on the same console. A splitscreen group can also join up with other players, if they choose to do so, online.

In the story mode, players share loot, shard pick-ups, and credits during the mission. If one person picks up a loot pack, one is generated for all players participating in the mission. After the mission ends, loot can be opened and credits can be spent to buy more loot. Loot lets Battleborn players augment their prowess during a match by spending shards found during the mission. For instance, the Kelvin character is buffed in his video, embedded below, when the player uses his equipped loot to increase Kelvin’s movement speed at the cost of healing power. The video shows other types of gear that can be equipped, too. One piece improves the character’s damage reduction while the other gives Kelvin health regeneration. Activating these buffs usually costs shards that players pick up during a mission, but the video displays one piece of gear being used immediately during a mission since it has a cost of zero shards.

All Battleborn characters are fighting to stop the destruction of the universe and each one is a member of one of the game’s five factions. Learn more about the factions in Battleborn by reading official lore for each of the factions. As the Inquisitr reported, the Rogues were detailed most recently but lore on the Jennerit and the Eldrid has also been released.
