Boy’s Allergies In Plane Clapping Incident Leads To Family Getting Kicked Off Flight [Video]

A 7-year-old boy and his parents were kicked off a flight after the boy’s allergies triggered an incident that resulted in the family’s removal from the plane. The incident has sparked outrage among many, and it is being labeled as a cold-hearted act. As reported by KCENTV.com, the trip from Bellingham, Washington, back home to Phoenix was cut short for 7-year-old Giovanni, mom Christina Fabian, and his father, George Alvarado.

“We were on Flight 171,” the boy’s mother told the news station. “He began to get very itchy and he was scratching all over. He started to get hives, so we informed the flight attendant who informed us that there’s dogs on every flight and just smirked, which minimized his experience for me.”

Fox News wrote that this family’s memorable vacation was turned into family suffering — for all the wrong reasons.

As explained in a report from Jalopnik, the special trip was a vacation intended to keep Giovanni’s mind off of his father George battling stage 4 throat cancer. When the parents reached out to the flight attendant about the boy’s emergency due to his allergies and explained their son’s dog allergy, the attendant smirked and remarked that there were dogs on every flight and that they would need to get off the plane, the report states.

The incident was made worse when passengers on the Allegiant flight clapped as little Giovanni and his family exited the plane after the boy experienced an allergic reaction.

Reportedly, Giovanni’s parents were taking their son on a special trip to get the boy’s mind off his father’s stage 4 throat cancer. The boy’s dad only has a few months left to live and the family trip was all about Giovanni, who wants to spend as much time with his father as he can.

The New York Daily News reports that Giovanni was extremely shaken up by the incident, and he even cried in an interview with the local news station as he recalled the clapping that erupted from the back of the plane as his family exited the aircraft to get medical help for the boy’s hives breakout.

“My dad’s sick with Stage IV throat cancer,” Giovanni said. “And that made me really sadder when I was already sad. I’m sad this has to be a memory with my dad.”

Just a short time after the family boarded the plan, Giovanni began to get hives. This delayed the flight as the family gathered their things. While the family was helped off of the plane to get medical help for the boy’s hives breakout, frustrated passengers began to sarcastically clap.

Although Allegiant apologized to the family for the incident and put the family on a new flight back home to Phoenix Wednesday after their trip to visit family in the town just south of the Canadian border was delayed, the incident triggered a fierce response from social media users.

“It wasn’t the flight attendant’s fault we got off the plane,” Fabian explained. “It was the flight attendant’s attitude that perpetuated people’s agitated behavior around us. It’s just the comments she had made.”

Allegiant Air is an American low-cost airline owned by Allegiant Travel Co. that operates scheduled and charter flights. Allegiant Travel Company is a publicly traded company with 2,848 employees and over $2.6 billion USD market capitalization. The company is based in Summerlin, Nevada, a suburban neighborhood in Las Vegas.

George Alvarado says the family’s vacation was special, and he considered it a part of his bucket list. He says the incident was upsetting and he also told reporters that he wishes people could “just be nice.”

“People who don’t have sadness, they don’t understand,” Giovanni said.
