‘Fuller House’ Star Candace Cameron Bure Says She Never Gave D.J. Tanner A Second Thought After ‘Full House’ Ended

Fuller House fever is in full force as the spinoff series gets set to make its Netflix debut, but the show’s stars may not have been as sentimental about the original series as fans were. According to the Huffington Post, star Candace Cameron Bure said she left her character back in the year 1995 for good when Full House ended its eight-season run that year. In fact, the Fuller House star all but forgot about poor Deej.

“I didn’t think about D.J. after the show ended. I never gave it a second thought.”

Ditto for Bure’s Fuller House co-star Jodie Sweetin, who plays her sister, Stephanie, on the show. Sweetin said she stopped thinking about her character after the original show wrapped, and never wondered or speculated at all about what the spunky middle sister would have been up to.

“Fans always ask about that stuff. It’s like we must go home and watch all 192 episodes every night. But honestly, Stephanie? I have no idea. I never thought about it.”

Fuller House will reunite Bure, Sweetin, and longtime pal Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler on the series) for the 13-episode reboot, so now fans will finally get an update on what happened to the Tanner clan 20 years after Full House ended.

Several major Fuller House plot lines and spoilers have already been leaked, including the basic premise of the show, which is a near carbon copy of the original Full House theme. In an interview with Good Morning America, the cast talked about their Fuller House alter egos. Bure plays a widowed D.J. Tanner-Fuller, a working mom to three kids who gets some help when her sister Steph and her childhood bestie move in to help her.

“D.J. is the oldest daughter, so she’s always responsible and nurturing and she’s kind of the head of this family and she’s a veterinarian and I think that was a cool job for her.”

For fans who are freaking out that D.J. is a widow on Fuller House, it’s comforting to at least know that her high school love, Steve (Scott Weinger), wasn’t her ill-fated husband. Fans who were ‘shipping the adorable duo back in the ’90s should know there’s always a second chance for romance, as Weinger is slated to appear in the spinoff series.

In the GMA interview, Barber revealed that the Fuller House version of Kimmy Gibbler may be a divorced mom, but she’s “still just as zany as she was back in the 90s.” Barber gave the older Kimmy props for at least improving her wardrobe over the past two decades.

As for Stephanie Tanner, Sweetin says her Fuller House character is still “kind of fun and wild and edgy and hasn’t lost her really sharp wit and comedic timing.” Can we get a “How rude?”

One big change will come for the family patriarch, Danny Tanner (played by Bob Saget), who is no longer looking for love in all the wrong places. For Fuller House, fans will see that the Wake Up San Francisco host has finally found love. Saget’s character is now married to a woman named Teri (played by Eva LaRue), so it sounds like Danny finally found his happily ever after.

The Fuller House cast has long been vocal about the fact that they’ve always remained friends. In the years since Full House ended, the cast has regularly kept in touch, so their natural chemistry will be apparent on the new show. It’ll be like they never missed a beat.
