Joey Feek Cancer Update: Rory Feek Recalls ‘Magical’ Trip To Hawaii, ‘What A Difference A Year Makes’

Joey Feek is bravely facing her final days after battling terminal cancer, and despite her grim prognosis, her husband and duet partner Rory Feek is choosing to focus on the good memories his family has made together.

On Tuesday, February 23, Rory recalled the “magical” trip to Hawaii that he and Joey, along with their daughter, Indiana, and Rory’s daughters from his previous marriage, Heidi and Hopie, took last year in honor of his 50th birthday. Rory shared a video on Facebook that showed his family bonding on their special vacation.

“…remembering this morning that last February, right around this time, we took a family trip together to Hawaii celebrate my upcoming birthday,” Rory captioned the heartwarming video. “What a difference a year makes. The only thing that’s changed is everything. And nothing.”

Last March, Rory detailed their vacation in a post on his blog This Life I Live. He explained that he was stationed in Hawaii in his early 20s, and had always wanted to take his family there to experience the magic of the island. Therefore, as a surprise for his 50th birthday, Joey arranged for them to spend one week on Oahu and one week on the Big Island.

“It was a magical trip. In late February, we packed our bags full of warm weather clothes (I promised Joey and the girls that I wouldn’t even take a pair of bib overalls with me, and I didn’t) and said goodbye to the ice and the cold and landed in beautiful sunny paradise… me, Joey, Heidi, her husband Casey, Hopie and our little Indiana,” Rory wrote in the post titled “Hawaii five-O.”

Joey and Rory’s Hawaii vacation took place nearly a year after Joey was diagnosed with cancer, and although she had recently been undergoing treatments, they made sure to take every opportunity to make memories with each other and their children.

“We walked beaches, hiked craters, caught waves, climbed volcanoes, road catamaran’s, drank mai-tai’s and even blew out a few candles together,” Rory wrote. “It was our favorite vacation we’ve ever taken. Most of the trips that we call family vacations, are actually places where we’re playing a show and try to fit in a few days of being tourists around it. This one was different. There was no music, no plan, no rush… just us all being together as a family. I loved it.”

Unfortunately, the Feeks are no longer able to travel as Joey has been confined to her hospice bed for the past few months. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Joey Feek was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer in May 2014, three months after giving birth to her daughter Indiana. Following her diagnosis, Joey’s doctors provided her with her treatment options, which included a radical hysterectomy and several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. At the advice of her doctors, Joey decided to continue with the surgery and other treatments. Although she seemed to be getting better, and was even able to take that trip to Hawaii, in October 2015, as she was preparing to finish her final round of chemotherapy, Joey’s doctors discovered that her cancer had returned and was spreading aggressively and rapidly.

With the new cancer discovery, Joey’s doctors informed her that there was little to nothing they could do, and her cancer was now terminal- they didn’t think she would live to see the holidays. Although Joey Feek could continue to undergo chemo and radiation, it would only buy her more time, not a cure. Therefore, Joey made the heartbreaking decision to stop treatment and return to her home in hospice care so she could live out the remainder of her days with her family and friends.
