Here’s How Jax Taylor Could Still Serve Time Behind Bars: Probation Comes With Limits

Jax Taylor made headlines a few weeks ago when he went into a store in Hawaii, grabbed a pair of sunglasses, and walked right out. He was arrested and thrown in jail, which was featured on Vanderpump Rules. His co-stars were about to leave the island to go back home to Los Angeles when they learned that he had been locked up. They managed to pay his bail, but Jax still had to return to Hawaii for a court appearance this week. According to a new Bravo report, Jax Taylorc decided to take a plea deal in the case so he could move on from everything.

Taylor appeared in a courtroom this week, where he accepted the deal in connection with the second-degree theft charge. The incident happened in July 2015, and he has tried to settle the case via phone calls with his lawyers. But he had to show up in court this week, where he accepted the deal.

Jax Taylor has been sentenced to 364 days of probation. Taylor was also fined $350, which he must pay back to the Sunglass Hut where he took the sunglasses from, $105 to the crime victim compensation fund, and $1,150 in fees and fines. But here’s the kicker: Jax has to stay out of trouble for the entire year of his probation or he could possibly go to jail. If he manages to stay out of trouble, his record in connection with the case will be wiped clean. Sounds like a good deal for Jax.

“I had too many drinks, too many Mai Tais,” Jax said in footage posted online from the courtroom this week, adding, “I made a mistake, took full responsibility and I understand this is going to follow me the rest of my life due to the fact that I’m on television. So I just want to say I’m sorry and I apologize.”

After Jax Taylor appeared in court, he jumped on a plane back to California, and he shared the news on Twitter, writing, “#RedEye back to #LAX bye #Hawaii be back soon! Probably a different island though.”

Taylor has previously apologized for the event, sharing both an apology in writing and on Watch What Happens Live. According to Bravo, Taylor felt bad about what had happened.

“Obviously I feel absolutely horrible about it. I am human. I made a mistake. I apologized to everybody. It’s cost me a lot of money and I just kind of went into the mentality where nobody can touch me,” Jax has previously said in connection with the case, adding, “And I kind of needed to be knocked down a little bit. It was a humbling experience. So it was good. Some good came out of that, what happened in Hawaii.”

Lisa Vanderpump wasn’t happy with the arrest, and she ended up suspending Jax for two weeks. He accepted the punishment and realized that he could hurt her SUR brand with this arrest. And some of his co-workers were not happy with Lisa’s treatment of Jax. James Kennedy thought he should be fired.

“I can’t believe it. Jax has gotten himself arrested. Jax just had the vacation of his life, why does he have to go and screw it up in the last hour? He’s always pushing boundaries, and now it has kind of bitten him in the ass,” Lisa revealed in her Bravo blog for Vanderpump Rules at the time of the arrest.

What do you think of Jax Taylor’s plea deal? Are you surprised that he has to stay out of trouble for a whole year to get his record wiped clean?
