Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are experimenting. They are searching for that new look that will set both of them apart, and define who they are on stage. Harry has bought a fabulous wardrobe of designer suits, while Zayn experiments with dying his hair bright bubble gum pink. It is almost purple. Overall, it looks amazing and suits his face nicely, bringing out new dimensions to his complexion.
Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are looking to redefine themselves. While Zayn Malik brings out the softer rosy tones in his countenance, Harry Styles is unbuttoning his shirts, then buttoning them up tight. He went too far with his unbuttoning recently and had a little nip slip at the airport, as seen in the video. He’s trying both flair leg pants and legging-tight skinny pants. He’s also been seen wearing some shockingly 60’s reminiscent printed suits. He’s even trying some lady styled blouses, soft loops of scarves and ribbons instead of neck ties.
Of course, Harry is no stranger to edgy fashion, and we saw some unique experiments in 2015 as well, but now there seems more of a method to his wardrobe madness as he is obviously comparing looks, creating some rather bizarre combinations and just trying to find the real Harry Styles look. Finding An Iconic Image Takes Time
Just like Harry Styles, Zayn Malik is searching for his special look, since eventually he will need to tour with his new album. He obviously can’t go out on stage with his everyday, same old clothes and the same hairstyle he has had for a while. In music, the singer’s clothing and hair tend to define their music style. Collectively, musicians’ clothing defines what the rest of the world will wear as well. Remember the Beatles in Nero jackets, the Blues Brothers suits, ZZ Top Beards, and the leather jacket-clad Ramones? Remember how the guys in Blondie wore skinny suits with skinny ties or Michael Jackson’s single glove? Of course, these are old examples, but it is kind of obvious Zayn Malik and Harry Styles are looking for something just as iconic as that to define a new kind of music. They are hungry for uniqueness, and originality.
Zayn Malik, like Harry Styles, is revisiting things he has tried before. Last year, Zayn Malik tried purple hair with a temporary color. He tried being a redhead as well, and he even went with gray once, although no one is really sure if that was intentional or not. Dying hair is a bit trickier than changing clothes, and Zayn seems to enjoy DIY hair color. He’s colored many times over the past year according to Style News. Maybe he could save some stress on his hair with Photoshop? Of course, he’s only been solo less than a year, and he is still tweaking his image for an album tour.

Musicians like Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are trend setters, and icons at the same time. Expect fans, and even competing bands and singers, to copy these looks as best they can. First though, Styles and Malik have to create and fine tune their most iconic image. This, of course, takes time, just as they are experimenting with guitars, singing and songwriting, so they will also have to experiment to get just the right look for their first concert tour.
