Catching Fire’s Finnick Role Offered to Sam Claflin

It looks as though the cast of Catching Fire is shaping up! It’s been a huge battle between high-profile actors for the lead role of Finnick in The Hunger Games sequel and it is said that relatively unknown actor Sam Claflin has been offered the role.

Even though official representatives for Catching Fire couldn’t be reached for a comment on the new casting, sources have said that producer Nina Jacobson have officially offered Claflin the role, all he has to do is sign on the dotted line.

Claflin, the lucky actor that will most likely play Finnick in The Hunger Games sequel, was said to beat out X-Men: The First Class star Lucas Till, Trevor Donovan, Armie Hammer, and Garret Hudlund. Another actor, Grey’s Anatomy hunk Jesse Williams had started a campaign for the role of Finnick on his Twitter and Facebook account as well.

Sam Claflin is best known for this year’s release of Snow White and the Huntsman, where he played Snow White’s childhood love, William. In addition he had a role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as Philip.

Since the news broke of Claflin’s role in Catching Fire, Variety has confirmed the news, and has also given details of additional cast members. According to Variety, Melissa Leo will play Mags and Tony Shaloub will play Beetee. Earlier in the month it was announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee, Stanley Tucci will play Caeser Flickerman, while Jena Malone will play the gritty Johanna Mason.

The start of production is said to be in late September for a 2013 release for the Francis Lawrence directed film.
