Denver Broncos’ Elvis Dumervil Arrested Over Firearm Charges

Miami Beach, FL – Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil and an accomplice were arrested on Saturday night in downtown Miami.

According to Det. Vivian Hernandez Dumervil faces a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, a third-degree felony.

The Denver Post reports that Dumervil was released on a $7,500 bond and that the events surrounding his arrest have not been made immediately available.

Harvey Steinberg, Dumervil’s attorney told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter:

“No charges have been filed. No aggravated assault or assault took place. And it is likely that once the full investigation is complete, no charges will be filed against Mr. Dumervil.”

The Denver Broncos were made immediately aware of the arrest and issued the following statement:

“This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course.”

A fourth-round pick during the 2009 NFL draft Dumervil that year had 17 sacks before sitting out the 2010 season with a torn pectoral muscle. Last season Dumvervil played in 14 games and racked up 9½ sacks.

Dumervil was born and raised in Miami and spends most of his off-season in the city.

With NFL teams preparing their training camps for the 2012-2013 season the last thing the Denver Bronco’s need is a distraction, especially when a players mugshot surfaces all over the web:

While Dumervil has remained silent about the arrest on his @EKD92 Twitter account other people have been quick to throw in their two cents including Peter Burns who tweeted:

Lindsay Jones @PostBroncos also points out what could be an important factor in Elvis Dumervil’s arrest:
