There are two, large jackpot games that are played in multiple states: Powerball and Mega Millions. While Powerball is the nation’s most popular jackpot game, Mega Millions comes close behind. Both jackpot games have the tendency to roll over and grow quite large. When choosing winning numbers for both Powerball and Mega Millions, you have the option of choosing your own numbers or taking the Quick Pick where the computer randomly selects your numbers. It is interesting to note that in the Jan. 13, record-breaking Powerball jackpot of $1.58 billion, many winners won with Quick Pick tickets, including the Tennessee couple who won the grand prize. The Robinsons appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and discussed their phenomenal win.
Mega Millions jackpots begin at $15 million and the game only costs $1 to play. You will either choose five white balls between the numbers one and 75 and a gold Mega Ball between the numbers one and 15, or choose a Quick Pick ticket. You can then choose the Megaplier option that will multiply the amount of all non-jackpot prizes should you select the Megaplier drawn with the winning numbers during the time of the drawing. When you purchase your Mega Millions ticket, make sure to sign the back of it immediately. If you do have a winning ticket, be careful whom you tell, regardless of how excited you might be to share the good news. Some states allow Mega Millions winners to remain anonymous, while other states require jackpot winners to go public. To determine the Mega Millions lottery rules for your state, check with your local state lottery office. You can find a full list of all states that play Mega Millions and their rules for jackpot winners at the official Mega Millions site.

Those who win the Mega Millions jackpot have their choice of receiving an annuity option or a cash option. With the annuity option, Mega Millions winners will receive an immediate payment, followed by yearly payments. Each payment increases by 5 percent to account for an increase in living costs. Most people choose an upfront cash payout as opposed to the annuity option. However; the annuity option may offer more financial stability and lower the risk of suddenly experiencing a cash windfall at once. Jackpot winners have a lot to consider and should speak with a financial advisor and attorney immediately. There have been many stories of trouble that has befallen lottery winners, some are rumors and some are verified to be true. There is a current story about a Powerball jackpot winner who overdosed on heroin while surrounded by hookers. Powerball and Mega Millions winners also need to take care that they do not become the victim of violent crimes. Those who win large jackpots and Mega Millions non-jackpot prizes must take the necessary steps to protect their wealth and safety.
