After the India cricket team suffered a 4-1 humiliation to Australia in their One day International series this month, fans can watch live streaming online as the Men in Blue look to turn the tables by clinching their T20 series — if India can grab the win in the second of three matches between the two nations in the shortest format of cricket.
The T20 series has put Australia under pressure in a series for the first time since the team's Ashes tour of England in the summer of 2015 — a tour in which they dropped the Ashes Test series 3-2, then won the subsequent five-match ODI series by the same score after blowing a two-game lead allowing England to pull even.
Before that tour, Australia easily won a pair of Test matches in the West Indies, and of course, cruised to the Cricket World Cup title, winning seven of their eight matches. And following the England tour, Australia has been dominant, breezing through six home Tests against New Zealand and West Indies with four wins and two draws.
But Australia has now lost two games back-to-back for the first time since the ODI series in England — the final ODI and first T20 — and face a must-win situation in the second T20 Sunday if they want to keep their new year winning streak alive.
For India, the second T20 presents what could be a golden opportunity to nail down a T20 series win ahead of the back-to-back Asia Cup T20 and ICC T20 World Cup tournaments in February and March.
Australia, it appears, is looking ahead to its tour of New Zealand, which opens just three days after the final T20 match against India. The team has chosen to drop two Australia's best players — Captain Steve Smith and Vice-Captain David Warner — to keep them fresh for the New Zealand tour, which opens with four ODI matches followed by two Tests. The first T20 match was twice marred by controversy, first when Virat Kohli gave a boisterous "send off" to Smith after the catching the Australian star out off a Ravindra Jadeja spinner.
"I don't think you need to do that kind of thing when someone gets out," Smith said later. "It's fine to have a little bit of banter when you're out in the field, but when someone's out I don't really think that's on."
Later, India fast bowler Hardik Pandya received an official reprimand in his international debut, when his celebration after dismissing Chris Lynn apparently contained objectionable language.
Though Australia will be without Smith and Warner for the second T20, one of the country's most dangerous white ball batsman, Glenn Maxwell, will make his return to the XI on Friday.
India-based broadcaster Star Sports will stream the second T20 match between Australia and India from Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Australia, at this link, and the India-based site CrichHD will offer a stream at this link. The most reliable way to watch Australia vs. India online in the United States is through Willow TV, which is available via this YouTube link, as well as on the Willow app for mobile devices or on Willow TV's own site, accessible by clicking here with a monthly subscription fee.
The good news is, there are legal ways to watch Willow TV for free. Certain promotional offers make it possible to watch the all-cricket network, including the Australia vs. India second T20, and the final T20 match — which will either decide the series or act as a meaningless epilogue — for a limited period of time, such as the offer at this link. The best bet would be the one-month free trial of Sling TV's International Sports Package, which includes Willow. Information on that deal can be found at this link.
