‘Days Of Our Lives’ Renewal News: NBC Executives Detail Optimism Regarding Upcoming Contract Negotiations
Buzz has been swirling for months regarding about whether NBC will cancel or renew Days of Our Lives as the show’s contract comes up for negotiation. Though an official announcement is not on the horizon yet, there has been a bit of talk emerging about the situation that could give fans some hope. What’s the scoop?
As TVLine details, NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt shared that the team is very happy about where Days of Our Lives has been in this past year. As fans know, the show made a number of significant changes related to the cast mix, and the storytelling last year that served as something of a revamping of the show. From the looks of things, the approach worked, and the ratings have reflected that.
Greenblatt indicates that the negotiating period for the Days of Our Lives contract renewal officially begins in February. However, insiders are said to be optimistic that a new deal will be reached, and the Salem shenanigans will continue for quite some time yet. NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke says that everybody has been very happy with the show and the current writing team, and the big 50th anniversary storylines brought the ratings bump the network had hoped to see.
The new year got off to a good start in terms of ratings as well, as DOOL fans tuned in to watch the big car accident that left Daniel dead, Brady with a new heart, and Eric in a heap of trouble. In addition, Hope crossed lines and killed Stefano, and viewers have been anxious to see happy days come together for Chad and Abigail. Can the show maintain this momentum? That may be the big question.
Salke says that while they are facing negotiations with Sony Pictures Television in terms of a new contract, NBC wants to keep Days of Our Lives running. An insider reportedly shared with Serial Scoop that the DOOL renewal is already a done deal, it just will not be formally announced until the official negotiating period has hit. Of course, a renewal would be great news, but the length of the renewal has yet to be revealed, and a short renewal would surely keep fans feeling a bit anxious.

Given the fact that the show tapes about six months ahead, it likely comes as no surprise that there is a lot of talk ahead of the negotiating window regarding the Days of Our Lives renewal or cancellation possibilities. The show has worked hard to bring back fan favorites and core characters, with folks like Steve, Kayla, Belle, and Shawn back in Salem. There are hints of big things yet to come, and fans certainly are not ready to say goodbye to DOOL at this point.
While an official Days of Our Lives renewal announcement may not emerge until February or even March, fans are tuning in day after day to see what the writers have cooked up. Vincent Irizarry has popped up as a vengeful younger brother of Victor’s, and fans are definitely buzzing about where this may be headed.
Fans are mourning the losses of characters like Will, Sonny, and Daniel and know that soon Greg Vaughan as Eric and Kate Mansi as Abigail will be leaving, too. At the same time, however, viewers are embracing the return to core characters like Belle and Shawn. Stay tuned for an official announcement, as NBC moves ahead in hopefully negotiating a new contract to keep Days of Our Lives going on for some time to come.
