Ryanair Flight Attendant Tells Passengers ‘We Don’t Want To Die’ As Ice Forms On Plane’s Wing (Video)

Whenever a flight is delayed for circumstances beyond anyone’s control, it’s frustrating but nothing can really be done about. The captain and crew often say different things in order to try and keep everyone in good spirits and let them know they will go soon. Well, a flight attendant on a Ryanair flight chose the wrong words and kept no-one calm when she got on the intercom and said, “We have ice on the wing – we don’t want to die.”

Yes, as reported by Mirror, the weird choice of words were uttered by the female flight attendant on Ryanair flight FR5773 that was heading from Glasgow to Dublin. Needles to say, but she didn’t keep anyone calm at all and it drew some very different reactions from the passengers.

Some raised their hands in the air. Others cursed. Some even laughed at the absurdity of what they had just been told.

The Ryanair flight was just one of numerous that were delayed or even totally grounded over a 24 hour period over the weekend. Heavy snowfall across the UK caused many passengers to end up being late or even having to wait another day to just leave Glasgow and other locations.

Things started off simply enough as the flight attendant was just letting everyone know that the main reason for the delay was the ice on the wing. Obviously, that’s more than enough reason for a flight to be delayed as the flaps won’t work and it’s simply not safe to take off or fly.

Metro reports that the flight attendant tried to keep things light-hearted and she then cracked the joke stating “we don’t want to die.”

Unfortunately, her joke backfired as people were left speechless for a few seconds before the entire cabin got into an uproar. Considering the passengers had already been waiting so long, rumored to be eight hours at this point, they weren’t quite in the mood for laughs.

A few passengers found it humorous, but others found it to be most inappropriate.

One man raised his fist in the air and shouted out “We don’t want to f***ing die, man!” Others began shouting and talking quite loudly and inaudibly.

A woman named Ella Ryan was on board the Ryanair flight and she posted the video to social media with a caption that explains the situation.

“This is what happens when you’ve been delayed almost 8 hours, everyone at a loss including staff “we don’t want to die” absolute mayhem!”

Ella said that the message from the flight attendant “only fueled the already anxious and angry passengers.” She went on to say that the member of the staff got on the intercom and made the “outrageous announcement” which caused all hell to break loose.

Yes, the passengers were waiting for hours and that was already enough to cause irritation and anger. It didn’t help that they were given different reason after different reason as to the cause of the delay that kept them waiting for eight hours.

After all that, passengers were compensated for their time by receiving a voucher that was worth $7.20. It was not said what the voucher could be used for exactly, but it is obvious that it won’t do much toward the cost of another flight.

Ryanair has not said much on the situation, but did release a statement.

“We will be speaking to the crew member involved and apologize for the regrettable comment she made in the heat of the moment.”

The Ryanair flight attendant knew there was ice on the wing of the plane and that her passengers had been waiting a long time during the delay. She may have been trying to lighten the situation, but saying “we don’t want to die” was obviously the wrong choice of things to say to a plane full of irritable passengers.
