‘GTA V’: Grind Your Grief Via Lemmy Kilmister Mod

When Lemmy Kilmister died just days after his 70th birthday on December 28, 2015, the Motorhead guitarist not only had left in his wake a short-lived battle with cancer but a strong foundational perspective for the genre of heavy metal music. Thousands of his grieving fans took to YouTube to share their condolences, some even asking that a metal be named after him in the periodic table, “Lemmium.” The petition circulates to this day in order to get an unnamed organic heavy metal named after him, according to TechTimes.

A few fans turned their grief into something constructive, in terms of active participation in a way that can commemorate the much beloved musician: they created a mod for GTA V that incorporates him and his hard-rocking spirit. This recent invention by Christian Brandes, David Violante, and jedijosh920 is probably one of the most touching and memorable that gamers have seen in recent years, according to Daily Star.

So, what does the mod hack give the gamer the capabilities of doing? Why, everything that Lemmy Kilmister did before his death. He can smoke, drink, play his guitar, and you can even place him on a motorbike where groupies can follow wherever he goes — not that different from real life! The GTA V game has proved to be incredibly therapeutic for many fans, particularly when one recalls the ironic statement given by Motorhead representatives at the time of Kilmister’s death. Kilmister had learned about his cancer diagnosis just two days before his death, which occurred while he was playing a video game.

“He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favourite video game from The Rainbow (Lemmy’s favourite bar & grill) which had recently made its way down the street, with his family.”

While fans can take solace in his comfortable state at the time of his death, they can also share his joy and love of playing video games as one last tribute. Lemmy was always a favorite of the ladies, and the still scenes that have been shared from the GTA V mod show no exception to this rule.

So, how realistic is this, you may ask? Very. Fans can play the character as he rides up on his Harley Davidson, all the girls trailing after him, and his signature tattoo and cowboy hat with the skulls is in place. He then goes on to throw a Molotov Cocktail at a church and police officers, beat someone senseless with a golf club, pick up some more girls, and finally end by firing rounds at a milk carton. Are all of these actions representative of something or just random? The creators haven’t said, but many users agree that they are true to Kilmister’s personality and capture his persona well, wowing fans and perhaps allowing them to act on their grief through aggression at his sudden passing. Always fan-friendly, many commenters have stated they think Kilmister would love the mod of himself on GTA V.

There are very specific ways of making the character of Lemmy do things, if you are so inclined. In order to allow Kilmister’s character to smoke cigarettes, GTA V gamers would need to press Shift+O. Shift+K makes the character of Kilmister drink alcohol, while Shift+I will enable him to play the guitar. Shift+H allows quite a few scantily-clad women to appear. More enticingly, Shift+J will have Lemmy’s character wearing a “War Pig Shirt,” much to the delight of gamers and Kilmister fans alike.
