Post Office Hours Martin Luther King Day: Is There Mail Delivery On Monday, January 18?

Is there mail delivery on Martin Luther King Day? If you are waiting for a delivery from the U.S. Post Office, UPS or FedEx, some packages are being delivered, but there are limitations as far as pick up and delivery goes on the second federal holiday of 2016.

MLK Day is observed on Monday, January 18, this year, and while many federal employees have the day off, not everything is closed. Unfortunately, if you are expecting an important piece of mail shipped through the U.S. Postal Service, or need to mail one out, there is no mail delivery, and all post office branches will be closed on Monday.

Of note, the USPS does deliver some Amazon and Priority Mail Express packages on weekends and holidays — check your tracking number for the expected delivery date.

If you need to purchase stamps, most convenience stores and supermarkets sell books of stamps at the register, otherwise you will have to wait until Tuesday, January 20, to buy them at your local U.S. Post Office branch.

The lobby of some USPS locations may be open so people have access to their post office box, but keep in mind, Monday’s mail won’t be distributed until Tuesday morning.

Expecting a package from UPS or FedEx? If it’s due to be delivered on Monday, chances are it will arrive unless there is a delay. All UPS and FedEx locations are open regular business hours and trucks will be on the road delivering packages on Martin Luther King Day.

According to the UPS holiday schedule, the company with the iconic brown trucks closes down on 7 out of 10 federal holidays. The company stays open and delivers packages on Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, and Columbus Day. An exception to the rule — on all ten holidays, UPS Express Critical package delivery is available, but it’s not budget-friendly.

FedEx will also be making deliveries on MLK Day, and all branch offices will be open if you need to mail a package or pick up one that is being held. The company provides normal pickup and delivery on the following holidays: Martin Luther King Day (January 18), Presidents Day (February 15), Columbus Day (October 10), and Veterans Day (November 11).

Wondering what else is open or closed on Monday? If you have the day off, you’re in luck. Most retail stores and even movie theaters will be open on Monday, but some will have special holiday hours.

Martin Luther King Day is a bank holiday, so if you need cash on Monday, the ATM is your only option. However, there is at least one exception. Although the Holiday Schedule reports that all banks are closed on January 18, TD Bank reports that all branches will be open regular business hours on Monday.

According to a previous report from the Inquisitr, retail stores including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, most mall stores and supermarkets will be open on Monday, and many stores will be running holiday sales.

Most chain restaurants including fast food (McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Burger King) and sit-down restaurants (Panera, Olive Garden, TGI Friday’s, Applebee’s, Denny’s, Boston Market, Golden Corral, Cracker Barrel) will be open on MLK Day. Call ahead for hours, especially if you plan to shop at a small business in your area or a locally-run restaurant.
