Britney Spears Skips PCAs After New Music Leak

Britney Spears opted to skip out on last night’s People’s Choice Awards just hours after details about her much-anticipated new music hit the web.

Britney, who was previously confirmed to be attending the big show, was noticeably absent during the Los Angeles ceremony despite winning her second career PCA for Favorite Social Media Celebrity.

So, where was Britney?

Spears took to social media post-show to tell her more than 43 million Twitter followers that she decided to miss the big awards show after suddenly feeling under the weather.

Using the hashtag #PeoplesChoiceAwards, Britney wrote on her official Twitter page, “I wish I could have been at the People’s Choice Awards tonight but I started feeling sick.”

Britney then took the time to thank her fans for awarding her the PCA for Favorite Social Media Celebrity, marking her 12th nomination at the awards show, adding that her newest hardware was “dedicated to [her] fans,” who she described as “the Britney Army.”

“Without you this would not be possible,” Spears continued, “I love that I can share my world with you and that you are so supportive of me. Remember to be kind online and spread love. #ThankYou!”

Britney’s absence from the People’s Choice Awards comes just hours after alleged new details about an upcoming EP leaked online.

According to MTV News, songwriter and producer Esjay Jones revealed in a now deleted tweet on January 5 that Spears may be dropping a brand new EP soon.

The site is reporting that Jones took to social media to break the news, allegedly tweeting out and then promptly deleting, “#2016 Ecstatic to be working on the @britneyspears #EP with the #DreamTeam @Trey_Vittetoe #ginaschock #britneyspears.”

Although Britney hasn’t confirmed the rumors she’s hard at work on an EP, she confessed to Billboard back in March 2015 that producing new music for her ninth studio album wasn’t exactly high on her priority list.

“I’m gonna do [a new album] slowly but surely,” Britney Spears told the magazine about the possibility of new music last year. “There’s a lot going on with my kids and schools and, you know, adding new sports and stuff like that. I’m gonna try to do my best to do an amazing album, but it’s not my full priority right now… Kids can drive you crazy.”

Britney Spears has stayed pretty mum when it comes to any new details about new music since then, but that certainly hasn’t stopped those around her from dropping hints on what we can expect when Britney releases the much-anticipated follow-up to her most recent single featuring Iggy Azalea, “Pretty Girls.”

In July 2015, songwriter and producer DJ Mustard revealed during an interview at London’s Wireless Festival with CapitalEXTRA that he’s been working in the studio with Spears on something “crazy.”

“It’s going to be crazy,” the producer said of Britney’s new music, “We got something harder than all that. It’s like it’s a movie, it’s crazy. I can’t really go too much on it, but it’s like — it’s incredible.”

And it sounds like some of that “incredible” movie mentality may find its way into Spears’ “Britney: Piece of Me” Las Vegas residency shows, which is getting a facelift for the New Year.

Britney revealed in December that she’s actually looking to revamp her uber-popular Sin City show, which was recently extended to run well into 2017, which could see Spears make a change to up to 75 percent of the stage show’s content. Perez Hilton reported at the time that Britney will “be adding in new songs and dance routines” to the show and has already begun rehearsals to iron out the change-ups.
