Hilary Duff Says Tabloid Paparazzi Were ‘Mean And Invasive’ After Her Pregnancy

Hilary Duff may not be a name most people have heard in a while, but that doesn’t mean she’s let a new baby keep her from pursuing a career. In fact, the Lizzie McGuire actress has been busy juggling single motherhood since her split from Mike Comrie and working on a new studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. Duff will also be starring in a new series, Younger, from Darren Star (Sex in the City). It seems Hilary is ready to put her hiatus behind her and take the entertainment business by storm.

Hilary Duff On Luca, Motherhood, And The Tabloids

Even after Hilary and her new son, Luca, returned home, the paparazzi still hounded the new mother. She recalls one incident in particular, when she ran out for a quick errand and, although she was still a heavier weight from the pregnancy, Duff says she chose to just wear something comfortable.

“…And the next day [in the tabloids] it was like, ‘Hilary debuts post-baby bod!’ And I was like, ‘That’s not a debut! That’s an errand!’ It was such a happy time that honestly I didn’t care; it wasn’t until later that I realized how mean and invasive it was.”

Hilary wasn’t going to let tabloid photographers stop her from living her life or being happy, but one thing did fill her with depression, as she prepared herself to return to work. Ms. Duff says she was hit with the guilt only new mothers can know, as she tried to have it all and came up short. The singer/actress learned that some part of her life always gets sacrificed, no matter how well she thinks she has balanced her life.

Ms. Duff says she learned that she will always miss out on something, no matter how well she plans and prioritizes her life. She says when she gets too deeply involved with work, she comes away feeling “extremely guilty.”

Marriage Is No Longer In The Cards For A Cinderella Story‘s Hilary Duff

If being a single mother to a newborn has taught Hilary anything, it has shown her that she doesn’t need a husband to feel complete. In fact, that’s just how she responds, when asked if she would be open to a new marriage. The actress, who once starred in an updated version of the classic Cinderella fairytale, says that a husband isn’t essential to any part of her life and that includes motherhood.

“I don’t want to say I wouldn’t get married again, but it’s not important to me,” said the Lizzy McGuire actress, reports ABC News. “I don’t feel I would need to be married to have another child.”

Duff adds that she’s not entirely closed to the idea, either. She says that, if either she or her partner felt strongly about it, she would consider it.

Meanwhile, she keeps moving along, trying to balance her home life with Lucas and her careers as a singer and actress. It helps that parenting responsibilities are shared with Comrie, who is retired from his own career as a hockey player. During his career, Mike played for the Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Hilary Duff’s fifth studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. was released on June 12, 2015 through RCA Records. Among a mix of original and cover songs, Ms. Duff covers the Fleetwood Mac hit, “Lies.”

Returning to television in Younger, Hilary stars as a twenty-something who befriends a 40-year-old single mother trying to pass herself off as a 26-year-old. Younger will premiere its second season on Tuesday, January 12 on TV Land.
