Watch the match-up that may be the last NFL game ever played in Oakland live online as the Raiders host longtime West Coast rival, the San Diego Chargers. The two teams — who have both been based in Los Angeles in the past—will meet for the Bay Area’s burg’s farewell to the NFL before they head back to the nation’s second-largest city for good, and where they intend to share a stadium in the L.A. suburb of Carson, California.
The Chargers began their football life as the Los Angeles Chargers, an original member of the American Football League, in 1960, playing home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the first two years of their existence before heading south to San Diego, where they have resided ever since.
The Raiders were also an original AFL franchise, starting life in 1960. But the team played in Oakland through the 1981 season — after that relocating south to Los Angeles where they also played home games in the venerable Coliseum, a 93,000-seat stadium that in 1923 that was home to the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984.
But the last pro football team to play in the Coliseum — which has been home to college football’s University of Southern California Trojans since 1923 — was the Los Angeles Xtreme of the short-lived XFL in 2001.

When NFL owners decide in January which teams will be allowed to move to Los Angeles — with another former Coliseum tenant, the Rams, also in the running — the Coliseum could, at least temporarily, once again host professional football.
But for now, the 6-8 Oakland Raiders will be looking to go out on a winning note Thursday night — Christmas Eve — against the 4-10 chargers, in a game which has little other significance considering that both teams are out of the AFC playoff hunt.

Though the Chargers and Raiders may be headed to the same destination in 2016, as football teams, they appear to be moving very much in opposite directions.
Led by second-year quarterback, Derek Carr, the Raiders second round draft pick in 2014 out of Fresno State University, Oakland has a chance — if the Raiders can beat the Chargers Thursday and win their final game against the streaking Kansas City Chiefs, as well — to finish at 8-8 after a dismal 3-13 campaign in 2014, and after winning just 11 games in the last three seasons combined.
The Chargers, on the other hand, must decide what to do with an aging Phillip Rivers, who led San Diego to a franchise-best 13-3 record in 2009, when he was named a first-team NFL All-Pro, and to consecutive 9-7 seasons on 2013 and 2014. But the Chargers could finish with their worst record since 2003 if they fail to win one of their final two games against the Raiders and then the Denver Broncos to close out the season.
